It is believed that Mary is the oldest daughter of James and Louisa FIELDS. James married Ellen Louisa BOWEN on 31 Jan 1850 in , Jefferson, Georgia. Ellen was born on 6 May 1830 in , , Georgia. She died on 16 Mar 1914 in , Emanuel, Georgia. She was buried in Greenway-Fields Cemetery, Blundale, Emanuel Co., Georgia. Although her tombstone gives her first name as "Ella", their marriage record and Census data show it as " Elen" or "Louisa". James and Ellen had the following children: + 2 F i. Mary M. FIELDS was born about 1851. + 3 F ii. Marjorie Catherine FIELDS was born on 4 Jun 1852. She died on 17 Apr 1932. + 4 M iii. James W. FIELDS Jr. was born about 1854. + 5 F iv. The 1860 Jefferson County Census shows a daughter of James W. & Louisa FIELDS as "Marfone" or Marjoner", age 7. She was not listed with her family on the 1870 Census. It is possible that this daughter of James and Louisa is the young woman who married James Irwin KERSEY about 1869. The 1880 Emanuel County Census shows her first name as "Maryan". Her surname is not certain. One source says FIELDS, another says MORGAN. Marjorie married James Irwin KERSEY (CSA) son of Thomas J. KERSEY and Susannah or Susan about 1869 in , , Georgia. Clyde Jonas Meeks, Jr., was born Mar. 18, 1812, in Marion District, South Carolina (see pg. 1390). He was married to Appia Whitley "Appy" Townsend on May 6, 1847, in Emanuel County, Ga., by his first cousin, Elder Edward Riner (pg. 8, para. #c). [She was born Feb. 14, 1812, in Washington County, Ga., and was the daughter of Henry and Edney [Edna?] (-?-) Townsend. See Townsend Family in this section, pg. 1519.] Their children include: Henry H. (see pg. 1394); Jonas; Margaret, who died young; Silas; Allen; and Stephen S. "Steve". They were farming in Emanuel County during the 1850 census. They were farming in Johnson County, Ga., during the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses. During the 1880 census, Andrew Meeks, an orphan born circa 1870; and a Kersey female, born circa 1852, were listed with them. Appy died Feb. 6, 1880, and Jonas died Apr. 3, 1886. They are buried in Jonas Meeks Cemetery, near Meeks, Georgia. 3. Hi Eva, Do you have a Rosa N. Smith who married James W. Fields on Dec. 05, 1879 in Emanuel County? The Smith line is a tough line to follow so I thought I'd take a shot in the dark. Tara D.
