This obit gives the maiden name of Mrs. Frank L. Covennah, as Mittle Lou FIELDS. It also provides the spouse of their daughter, Martha/Mitter Covenah. She married J. L. Richardson (sp?) of Surrency. You will note the obit says James Bennett Covena was buried in the Fields Cemetery but the cemetery book does not record this grave. ================================================= Swainsboro Forest Blade, 12/23/1937 Funeral rites for James Bennett Covena, age 56, were at the graveside in Fields Family cemetery, near Blundale, at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. C. A. Jorden, officiating. Swainsboro Funeral parlor was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Covena died sometime during Sunday night. Mr. Leonard Lamb, a neighbor went to Mr. Covena's home early Monday morning. Failing to get a response to his knocks and finding the door locked, Mr. lamb went around the house to arouse Mr. Covena, if he was still asleep. He observed an open window to the bedroom and saw Mr. Covenah laying on the floor, who failed to answer his calls. Mr. Lamb broke in the door and went to the bedroom and found Mr. Covena to be dead. Mr. Lamb informed neighbors and relatives of what he had observed. Since there were not eye witnesses to the incident, Coronor Charles A. Coleman was called in and he summoned a jury, who investigated and reported a verdict that the deceased came to his death by reason of "heart failure." He was born in Jefferson County but had spent practically all of his life in Emanuel County, where he was engaged in farming. Mr. Covena was a son of the late Frank Covena and Mittie Lou Fields Covena. He is survived by one brother, N. H. Covena, of Swainsboro; two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Richerson of Surrency, and mrs. T. A. Canady of Garfield, besides a large family connection in this and adjoining counties.

    2. Olivia
    3. Dawn, your article is similar to the one I have from another paper. Felix Corbin was my mother's uncle. Does anyone on the list know what happened between him and the Thompsons? Olivia Montgomery County Newspaper Clippings: Thursday, December 15, 1910 ONE DEATH MAY ALTER THE CASE. Swainsboro, Ga., December 9.--The remains of Felix Corbin, who was killed at Milton, Florida, Wednesday arrived at Oak Park in this county last night and were interred in the family burying ground near the old Corbin homestead today. Many rumors are current as to the way that Corbin came to his death. The most authentic report is that Corbin was at his home when he was called to the door and under cover of darkness a volley of shots was fired at him, one of them striking him and producing death. Corbin, who was a former resident of this county, was wanted here charged with assault and battery on the persons of Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Thompson and their young daughter. Sheriff Fields after considerable trouble located him in Florida and with requisition papers went to Santa Rosa County to get Corbin and bring him back to this county for trial. This was about five months ago. Corbin refused to come and under a writ of habeas corpus was given a hearing. The result of this proceeding gave Corbin his freedom. Sheriff Fields then made affidavit that Corbin was a fugitive from justice and Sheriff Collins of Santa Rosa rearrested Corbin and turned him over to Sheriff Fields, who brought him back here. As soon as he reached this county Corbin gave bond for his appearance, returned to Florida and had warrants issued for both Sheriff Fields and Sheriff Collins in the United States Court. Both officers were arrested and placed under bond. Sheriff Fields appeared in federal court in Savannah last week asking that his case be transferred to Georgia. This was not granted and he is now under bond to appear in the United States court in Florida. Corbin was the chief witness in these cases and it is probable that his death will put an end to this affair. Corbin was a son of the late Nelson Corbin of this county. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nancy Corbin, and a number of brothers. He was 35 years of age and was physically a fine specimen of manhood. He was twice married, his first wife being a Miss Wilkes, sister of B.F. (B.B.) Wilkes of this county. His second wife was from Florida, and she and several children survive him. > This one is interesting! > > The Atlanta Constitution > Emanuel County Man Killed in Florida > Dec. 10, 1910 > > The remains of Felix Corbin, who was murdered at Milton Fla. day before yesterday, arrived at Oak Park, in this county, last night, and will be interred in the family burying ground near the old Corbin homestead. > Many rumors are current as the way that Corbin came to his death. 2. Hey Denise, Answers I have: 1.  Was Solomon THOMPSON married to Clarissa Elizabeth GRIFFITH or Elizabeth Clarissa GRIFFITH?  I show the latter in my database.  I show Clarissa Elizabeth Griffith b Nov 20, 1841 d Dec 18, 1925 2.  Was Josephine THOMPSON married to Eleazer Lewis COWART or Eleazer Logan COWART?  I show the latter in my database 3.I have their fifth child as Eleazer Lewis COWART.  I assume this is the child you refer to as Lewis.  Am I correct?  Yes, thats correct. I am glad to share any information I am able to obtain. Hopefully, I will get a pic of Josie Thompson Cowart and some of the children soon. Anyone interested is welcome to a copy. Interesting that Eleazer Alonso Thompson's first wife was a Cowart also. Her name was Martha Maggie Cowart. THis information came from a Thompson researcher and I have not verified it. bobbie
