This list has given me so much, while I have little to offer. However, I just received a copy of Coleman's Cemeteries of Telfair County. If I can look up something for you guys, let me know. Gerry I don't have a book but several pages copied from the book at the Arlanta Archives. The Emanuel County website has Marriage Info No Orran/Aurin BIRD or BYRD listed. BIRD, Eliza + McLEOD Sam, Jr. Book B1 319 12/03/0877* (I don't know what the asteric refers to... no other info) BIRD, Eliza PHILLIPS + Sam Book B2 188 2/27/1887 < Marriage Performed by Isaac Woods, JP. Hope this helps, Claudia
Would you have Orran Bird (or Byrd) and his sister Eliza in the book? Originally from South Carolina. Directions to Stevens Cemetery: from Summertown, go west on Main Street//McGarrh Mill Pond Road 0.9 miles. Turn right onto Stevens Cemetery Road. The cemetery is 2 miles down the road. The Emanuel County Cemetery book does not show a listing for Mary Stevens, however, their son William Stevens, Jr. (1824-1899) is buried their with his wife Nancy "Nannie" Durden (1835-1913). __________________________________ Yahoo! I've done major searches since Dawn mentioned this story. There was a George Eubanks family in Emanuel County in 1920, in the Stillmore area; perhaps that's the brother referred to in the article. But I can't find a J.A. Eubanks in Georgia at any time, nor a Martha Deal. This is a real mystery! I guess everybody that might have known anything is long dead! I will try to contact the family of Nettie Harrington to see if they know anything. By the way, Aunt Nettie was a daughter of Bazzel Williamson, who had been a slave of my paternal great-grandfather, Solomon Williamson. Aunt Nettie died in 1997 at the age of 105. My husband's grandmother had an odd middle name. Spelled possibly SKIRGINIA or SCIRGINIA. Pronounced similar to VIRGINIA. I can't find any reference to either spelling on the web (except a note I sent out years ago to a mailing list). Does anyone have a clue where this name may have come from? Family members don't have any idea, either. She was from Virginia - maybe they just made up a variation? Tara --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean.
