    1. My trip to Emanuel
    2. Tara D. Fields
    3. Well folks, James and I just got back from our trip to Emanuel / Jefferson Counties. I had a GREAT time. We stayed the first night at James's great uncle Jack's house (another Fields) south of Emanuel. The next two nights we spent in Swainsboro at the Coleman Inn (what a BEAUTIFUL house). We are very tired as we spent the entire time running around. We'd stop long enough to eat and would get back to our room exhausted each night. We saw a lot! We managed to find the grave of my husband's 3rd great grandparents (I'll pat myself on the back for that one, it was in the woods!) James's great uncle never knew that his own great-grandparents were buried so near. In fact, until I presented him with this information he didn't even know his name! He's approaching 80 years old and was thrilled with what we have all learned. We also visited the Hall Cemetery as well as about 10 or so other cemeteries. I will be posting the photos on my web site so you all can get copies if any happen to be also related to you. My high point was getting a photo with my husband, his father, and his great-uncle together with the grave of two people - their 3rd great, 2nd great, and 1 great grandfather and grandmother - respectively. It's a shame that my husband's grandfather has already passed away. I would have loved to have gotten a photo of a direct line - but this is close enough! Even my husband, who doesn't care about all of this quite as much as I do, felt that the trip was good. His grandfather Fields died the year before he was born. Pa Henry was always just a name. Spending time with his Uncle Jack (Pa Henry's son from his second marriage) was a blessing - James heard stories about Pa Henry he had never heard before. James said that he know feels like this man was a REAL person. As my husband has a better mind for stories I'm going to ask him to write down the ones we heard so that I can add them to the family file. The funny ones I'll also post to the list! All for now. I'm totally pooped, but I am looking forward to spending time organizing my photos and sharing them with you all. Without this list, this trip wouldn't have been very productive! Also, I have acquired some new books. Once I have finished with the photos I'll post the names of the books and offer to do (reasonable) look-ups. Take care, Tara Fields --- avast! 1. Gravestone Presentation
    2. Tara D. Fields
    3. Hi all, Nancy posted a note that I would be giving a gravestone iconology/iconography presentation in Jacksonville, Florida on August 20th (1:30 pm at the Webb-Wesconnett Library at 6887 103rd St. in Jacksonville). I will be giving this same presentation in Brantley County, Georgia the day before on August 19th. It will be at 10:30 am at the Brantley County Library. If anyone is interested, it might be a bit closer for the Georgia folks than Jacksonville. For those of you who don't know where Brantley County is, it's north of Camden and Charlton Counties and just west of Glynn County in the southeast section of the state. Tara --- avast! 1. William Beasley b 1767, Rachel Robinette b 1777
    2. Carol Miller
    3. Does anyone have the census information for my 3great-grandparents, William Beasley and Rachel Robinette, for 1800 and 1810? They were married Sept 23, 1794 in Greene Co Ga, and were in Emanuel Co by 1820, where they lived until their deaths in 1845 and 1850. Were they in Darlington SC in the 1800 and 1810 censuses? Also, does anyone know if William was married previously? Some people seem to think that he was the father of Nancy Polly Bealsey who married Rev Warren Key/a. Others say that Nancy was a sister of William, whose parents were James Bealsey and Mary Ann Polly Taylor. I would really like to see the census information for this family for 1800 and 1810 if anyone has it, and also for the James Beasley family for 1790. Thanks for any help. Carol B. Miller

    3. First Generation 1. White Roster SMITH was born on 8 May 1817 in Georgia. He died on 19 Feb 1892 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. He was buried in Moore Cemetery, Swainsboro, Georgia. During 1850 Whit's property was valued at $500. Listed with him and Rachel at that time were John STROUD, age 24; James H. PRICE, age 20; and Whit's widowed mother, Martha SMITH, age 60. Living with Whit and Rachel during the 1860 Emanuel County Census were Whit's widowed mother, Martha SMITH, age 85; and James FAIRCLOTH, age 23. Sandersville Herald, Sandersville: Wednesday, October 22, 1862 - White R. Smith applies for letters of administration on the estate of James H. Price, deceased...White R. Smith, Adm. Wednesday, June 24, 1863 - Will be sold before the Court House door in said county...all the property belonging to the estate of James H. Price, late of said county, deceased. Sold for the benefit of the heirs and creditors of said estate. White R. Smith, Adm. Wednesday, April 21, 1869 - White R. Smith files for discharge from the estate of James H. Price, deceased. Living with Whit and his 2nd wife, Ann, during the 1870 Emanuel County Census were his widowed mother, Martha, age 90; and John C. FLANDERS, age 14, a farm laborer. 1905 - THE FOREST BLADE NEWSPAPER, VOL XXIX, NUMBER 40: 02 Mar 1905: Mess. Saffold & Larsen, of this city, are looking into several war claims based upon property destroyed during the civil war. The claims which they are looking into at present are, Eli Roberts, $1255.00, Brittain Scott, $693.00, White R, Smith , $596.75, John A. Spence, $624.50, Richard Sumner, $1042.50, Abner Sutton, $516.50, Micheal Wiggins, $1747.00, John Wiggins, $1818.00, and they are now engaged in obtaining the names and post offices of the different heirs to these parties. If the proper proof can be obtained, and the different heirs wish them to look into the matter, they will make a most strenuous effort to enforce collection, and it is quite possible that a member of the firm will go to Washington, DC and give the matters personal attention as soon as satisfactory proof can be obtained. While these gentlemen do not say a great deal, we are of the opinion, judging from their past success in difficult matters, that there is some chance of their bringing some of this money into our county, and we would advise those interested to consult with them at an early date.
