The information for these service records was taken from records of the Confederate Government (company muster rolls, hospital registers, etc.) that were captured at the end of the war and taken to Washington, D.C., and from certain U.S. Army records that gave information about these Confederate soldiers such as prisoner of war registers, etc. A few years after the program was begun, the Georgia Commissioner of Pensions began writing to the U.S. War Department requesting abstracts of these service records. This was done in order to prove the service of the applicants for a pension. They usually give a brief summary of the man's service. I am wondering about this family: Darlington SC 1810: William Beasley 121100 301100 Could this be William Beasley b 1767 and Rachel Robinette b 1777 and their family? The two adults are the right age. There is also a son age 16-26 and a daughter age 10 to 16 who could not have been Rachel's children. But, if William was married previously, they could be his children. I have seen some postings that suggest he was married first to a Mary Ann Ukn. I am trying to figure out this family, and the various postings I have found are conflicting. I found a will posted for James - Warren Co Will Book A p 38 14 May 1799, probated 3 June 1799. Life estate to wife Ann. Then to be divided among children Richard, William, Elizabeth, Henry, James, Berel, and Polly. EX: Richard Beasley (son) and son in law William Earnest, witnesses Levi Pruitt, James Beasley, William Howard I have seen a posting that says James served in the Ga Militia during the Rev. War, and was a participant at the Battle of Kettle Creek. So, if correct, he was in Ga by this time, and then settled in Warren/Greene Co, where he later died in 1799. I have seen some postings that say he moved to Laurens Co and died there in 1799, but if this will above was his, that does not seem to be the case. I also saw a posting that says that Willliam won 360 acres in Emanuel Co in the Land Lottery ( I presume 1807?). This doesn't explain why he would have then moved to Darlington SC. There is a Warren Key living next door to Edward Skinner in the 1810 Darlington census. Is this the same Warren Key who founded Kea's Church, who marrie Nancy Polly Beasley? (Edward Skinner was probably either the father or grandfather of my 2great-grandfather John J Skinner who married Sarah Beasley. Sarah Beasley Skinner was a member of Kea's Church after she moved from SC to Emanuel Co). This is what I am thinking, though I have found nothing anywhere that suggests this. Sarah Beasley Skinner b 7-1816 SC and her sister Nancy Beasley Harrell b 6-1814 SC were daughters of John Beasley b 1788 Darlington SC and Mary Anna Pipkin. Sarah is my 2great-grandmother. She and Nancy and their families moved from Darlington to Emanuel Co in the early 1850's. (William Beasley b 1767 died in Emanuel Co in 1850). John's father is said to be William Harvey Beasley b either 1769 or 1775, and Harriett Hudson. However, I have never really found much information on this family, and the dates have never added up where they make any sense. William Harvey's father John is usually posted as born in 1755, so one of these men, either John or William, would have been 13 0r 14 years old when he became a father. What I am wondering is whether William Beasley b 1767 might be the father of John Beasley b 1788. This would explain why John and Sarah Beasley Skinner are buried in the same small cemetery as Daniel Elijah Beasley and his wife Rebekah Barnes - off Kea's Mill Pond Rd in Emanuel Co - Sarah would then be Elijah's niece, and Elijah would be a half-brother of John b 1788. William b 1767 may have lived in Darlington and then moved to Greene Co Ga after his first wife died, then moved back there for a while after he married Rachel Robinette, where their children were born, then they decided to move to Emanuel Co where they owned land. This is all highly speculative, but I haven't really seen anything so far that would make it impossible either. Regards, Carol -----Original Message----- From: Clyde Hooks [mailto:c_hooks@bellsouth.net] Sent: Friday, August 05, 2005 2:01 PM To: GAEMANUE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GAEMANUE-L] William Beasley b 1767, Rachel Robinette b 1777 I'm only a step-descendant of the Beasley family, but my information is that William and Polly were siblings and children of James, that died testate in Warren County, Ga., in 1799 (I have not seen that will. I was told about it by Ray Tapley, I believe.) Their mother was Polly Ann Pate (most likely Mary Ann "Polly"). Her parents were Travis and Annie Pate of Johnston Co., North Carolina. There are no census reports for Ga. for 1790, 1800, or 1810. William was born in 1767 in N.C., moved to S.C., then to Warren Co., and then to Emanuel. But, looking at his children. They were born in South Carolina. Looks like he might have been living with his father in Warren Co. and after his marriage, moved to South Carolina. Perhaps I should be saying that he was born in N.C., moved to Warren Co., then to S.C., and then to Emanuel. Polly (a nickname for Mary) was born circa 1791 in South Carolina (3 years before William married). Why did William marry in Greene County? Warren and Greene were adjoining counties until 1825. If I have looked at the South Carolina census records for William, I don't have a record of it. I hope this helps. e mail me if I can help with anything else.
Anyone have any information on this fellow? Born ca 1818? Husband of Rachael Flanders (b ca 1826)? He is my husband's 3rd great grandfather and I would like to know more about him. I found a grave of a W. R. Smith in Emanuel whose dates roughly matched. I also know that this W. R. was married to a "R" Smith - was this White Roster and Rachael? Also nearby in the cemetery was a collection of Flanders. Many clues but nothing definitive. Any help appreciated. Tara --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean.
