    3. Ben, This is awkward. I now have two computers and I received your message on one and I'm replying on the other. I keep saying that one one these days I'll get organized. Below is my "paragraph" on James Daniel Kersey. I have been to the grave of Fronie Kersey. I haven't been to his grave. An uncle of mine had been there and was supposed to take me one day but never did. He's dead now. There were only two or three people that knew where the grave of Fronie was. The others have died and I have forgotten how to get there! Not really, but it will be difficult. Clyde James Daniel Kersey was born Jan. 13, 1831, in Emanuel County, Georgia (see pg. 1341). He was listed with his parents in Emanuel County during the 1850 census. He married first Mary Ann Burris May 11, 1852, in Emanuel County. [She was born circa 1834.] They were farming in Emanuel County during the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Their children: Solomon; Joseph (see pg. 1344); Henry Shupe; Mary "Polly" Ann, who married Wright Copeland; and Rachel, who never married. James enlisted in Company F, 48th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, in Mar., 1862. In June, 1863, he transferred to Company D, 59th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. He was paroled in 1864 at Point Lookout, Maryland (Confederate records). As the wife of a soldier, Mary received a ration of salt in Emanuel County Sept. 26, 1864 (Salt Book, pg. 631). Apparently James and Mary Ann were divorced. She married second Eli Johnson. James married second Malinda Jane A. Rowland May 8, 1872, in Johnson County, Georgia. [She went by the name Jane. She was born circa 1841.] They were farming in Johnson County during the 1880 census. Their children: George Washington; Alexander Stephen; Linton; Jane, who married Henry Sheppard; Sally "Duck" (see pg. 1344); and Cindy, who married Melton Copeland. John Kersey, age 11, identified as a son, was listed with them during the 1880 census. James married third Saphronia "Fronie" Rich Aug. 4, 1890, in Emanuel County. [She was born circa 1870.] Their children: Mattie V.; and Lillie, who married G. G. Darling. James first applied for a veteran's pension in Montgomery County, Georgia. He was paid there in 1897. Then, he moved to Emanuel County. Fronie died Sept. 16, 1899, and is buried in Flanders Cemetery, west of Swainsboro, Georgia. They were listed in Emanuel County, next door to James Marion Riner (pg. 32, para. #fc), during the 1900 census. James submitted a second application for a pension in Johnson County, Ga., in 1907. He died June 17, 1909, and is buried in J. D. Kersey Cemetery, near the Emanuel County line between Kite and Swainsboro.

I'll be arriving Thursday afternoon about 4-ish and leaving Saturday. I was wondering if any of you would like to get together sometime Thursday night or Friday morning? It would be wonderful to be able to put faces with some of the names that are so familiar to me. Carol Riner Everett __________________________________ Yahoo!
