Eva, this will either help or make things more confusing!! :) Carol First Generation 1. Benjamin or John WHEELER was born about 1770 in , , Georgia. He died before 1870 in , , Georgia. Are either of these the father of Whitus Wheeler? The 1840 & 1850 Census show a Benjamin Wheeler in Habersham Co., GA. According to the 1850 Census he was born about 1781 in North Carolina. The 1830 and 1840 Censuses show a Benjamin Wheeler living in Troup Co., GA -- Capt.Tordaway District in 1830, District 700 in 1840. The 1830 Census shows him as age 30-40. No further information on him. According to a posting on Ancestry.com by Hal Brandley <hwbradley@verizon.net>, the father of Charles, Sarah, and Nancy Wheeler was John WHEELER, born about 1770 in Burke Co., GA. He does not list White or Willoughby as sons of John - perhaps because they were not listed in Appling County in 1850 as was the rest of the children. Most of the children of Benjamin/John had a daughter named Mary. It is highly probable that their mother was named Mary, as well. Benjamin had the following children: 2 M i. Whitus "White" WHEELER was born on 15 Mar 1807 in , , Georgia. He died on 19 May 1860 in , , Georgia. He was buried in Wheeler Cemetery, south of Kite, Georgia. Who were the parents of Whitus Wheeler? Some researchers say Benjamin Wheeler was his father; others say his parents were Shadrack Wheeler and Apsilla Brinson. Several postings at Ancestry.com indicate that Shadrach Wheeler was born about 1750/1755 and Apsilla Brinson was born abt 1756 in Onslow Co., NC. She and Shadrach Wheeler married in 1778 in Onslow County. All postings show just 2 children for Shadrach and Apsilla: Lott Wheeler and Adam Brinson Wheeler. There were probably other children. As posted by Don Hagin at Ancestry.com: Shadrach Wheeler property sale in 1772 Onslow Co. NC Deed book B-1 2nd property sale in Deed Book B-1 1784 also Onslow Co. NC to Daniel Sheppard. Shadrach Wheeler shows up in 1811 Effingham CO. GA, land plat books. Are either of these Benjamins father of Whitus Wheeler? The 1840 & 1850 Census show a Benjamin Wheeler in Habersham Co., GA. Does anyone know anything about the death of Garry B. Fields on March 16, 1935? Apparently it was in a bar gunfight. I've heard two conflicting stories. Possibly died along with Odessa Jones. She is said to be buried in Hall Cemetery but she's not in the cemetery book (there are some other Joneses out there). Garry B. IS buried in that cemetery. Thanks, Tara --- avast! If anyone can help me with this family line, I will be so grateful! All I have found on my Wheeler brickwall is this: Benjamin Wheeler; sons- White or Whitus Wheeler/Elizabeth Kight, Charles, Willoughby, Sallie/Robert Douglas, Nancy/Zare Taylor. No one has been able to tell me anything about these people other than my 4th ggrandfather being White Wheeler. There is a Benjamin Wheeler listed on GenWeb Warren Co. as a Revolutionary Soldier, but I don't know anything else about him. I would love just to know who Benjamin Wheeler's wife was. Please help. May I butt in and make a suggestion? During our last trip we ate lunch (11am-2pm) at the Coleman Inn. The have a buffet as well as a kitchen. Food was good and reasonably priced and you can't beat eating in a large old (well-kept) home. They don't do dinner. Also, there is a good restaurant 20-25 minutes north of Swainsboro on Coleman's Lake - called Coleman's Lake Restaurant. Expensive but the food was excellent. Out of Swainsboro, take 56N, 15 miles or so until you reach a road that heads off to your left (RIGHT before the county line with Jefferson). There is a sign for the restaurant, the lake, as well as for a nearby bed and breakfast. You can't miss it. Just follow the signs. Finally, there is a small bar/restaurant on the square. I don't recall the name but it was the only one on the square (just west of US1 N). My husband ate there and enjoyed the meal. Growing up, I knew Robert "Bob" Darling of Darling's Department Store in Swainsboro, but I don't think he was originally from Emanuel County. I wonder if he's related to this "G.G."?
