Hi Diane, Yes, the Ladsen Library was mentioned to me in several personal emails. I think it's probably the one I'll go to. Haven't called them yet, but from their website, it appears that they will meet my needs nicely. Thanks so much for caring enough to email me. I checked out the Cyclopedia of Georgia, Vol. 1 at Google Books that's been mentioned in the thread about Henry Richard Daniel. You can download the entire book in pdf format. Vol. 1 goes through the D's. http://books.google.com/books?id=EMEBAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA135&lpg=PA135&dq=%22C yclopedia+of+Georgia%22&source=web&ots=VNA-uQTc2G&sig=SCj4s9wjmOZPs2TgvG UIaBvyxAM&hl=en For Alexander D. Coleman the book says.... ".....son of Welcome L. and Georgia (Scott) Coleman. The father was a successful planter, a loyal soldier of the Confederacy in the Civil War, tax collector of Emanuel County for four years, prominently identified with the Masonic fraternity, and a citizen of influence who commanded uniform esteem in the community." My Question: Does any one know anything about Georgia Scott Coleman? I've long looked for information about her father John J. Scott. You'd think if Welcome Coleman was so prominent then someone on this list would have researched him and would know something about his wife and her family. I've asked before and couldn't resist asking again after seeing this entry in the Cyclopedia of Georgia. Yvonne Scott
I think I've figured this out. Sarah Daniel, age 49 in 1850, would not be Mary Griffis McLeod's mother; she would have been her sister. Sarah Neal who married John Griffis about 1799 was their mother. I am at a brick wall. I am a bit excited about all this as I have been searching and trying to document as I go. I have John Raven Daniel, married Mrs. Sarah Neal Griffis and had one son. Nothing else on the couple. I am attempting to document all this for myself, your marriage information you mentioned is it Sara and John Raven? If so where did you find? Thank you. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: shep1975 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.counties.emanuel/613.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great-great grandfather was Willey Thigpen and he married Mary Jane Curls. They had one child together, Zuma Etta Thigpen born in 1904 in Oak Park, Emanuel County. Willey was born about 1886 and dies around 1919 of the flu, along with a couple of his step children. Mary Jane was 16 years older. They married when Willey was 17 and she was 33. I have no other hard information on Willey, including who his parents are, but given William and Delilah had a daughter that did not survive named Zuma Edna born around the same time Willey was, there seems like there may be a family connection. Do you have any other information that we could possibly use to figure out if there is a match? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thank you recently I stumbled upon the "Cyclopedia of Georgia", Henry Richard Daniel was it appears alive at the time the listing was done he was son of Nathanial Daniel and Elizabeth Atkinson. Nathaniel (Henry's father) died when Henry was 9 days old, mother remarried and Henry was schooled in Emanuel County and raised by his uncle Neil McLeod, Henry was later Tax collector, county sheriff for two terms and later a lawyer. He represented the county in the state legislature. Judge Daniel married J. Addie Kirkland, daughter of Judge Abram L. Kirkland. Above taken in part from the "Cyclopedia of Georgia".. available in its entirety on line.
