Dear List, I recently made a trip to Manassas National Battlefield and realized the park has a new bookstore (since I was there) with a computerized database that allows one to search for Civil War Soldiers by state. After not finding my ancestor in SC census records, his name (HOPEFULLY HIM) popped up in the database in the county I'd been searching for YEARS. I'm sharing this information in hopes that it will help someone else. The database I accessed at Manassas National Battlefield is Broadfoot's Confederate Roster. For $5, I got one page, with 28 GOFFs from SC who fought in the Confederacy. It gave me their surname, first name, and middle initial. It also gave me the unit, company and rank. You might try telephoning the bookstore at 703-361-6549 if interested in a Soldier Name List. Alternatively, this same information is available at the Broadfoot website for $10. You can see the website at http://soldiersearch.com or call 1-800-537-5243. I ordered my ancestor's service and pension records for much less ($ and time) then what I can do at the National Archives...and I live just 10 miles from the National Archives! Hope I am not disappointed with the result. Denise Denise Lindsey Wells [email protected] 703-241-2549 (h) 703-507-6703 (c)
I don't have dates for Pauline Grimes. Neither do I have a list of their children. Is it possible she and the first Mary are the same person? If she had died prior to 1880, then yes, I would say he had three wives. He also married a Mary Lamb, but I'm not sure which one she is. In my file, I have his wife as a sister of John Green Lamb, but his sister and his daughter were near the same age. Hey Nancy, When you get to U.S. Hwy 80 in Statesboro, turn left and head west. If you're not familiar with the Statesboro to Swainsboro route, be careful. About 5 miles west of Statesboro, Hwy 80 makes a left turn towards Portal. If you don't make this turn, you'll be headed towards Millen on Hwy. 25. Continue west on Hwy 80 through Portal, Twin City, and Swainsboro. >From Swainsboro, continue going west until you come to the intersection of U.S. Hwy 80 and U.S. Hwy 221. This is Norristown Junction. Turn left onto Hwy 221, and head south. Now, this is where it gets tricky. I assume you're going to Hall Cemetery. I was just there on Friday. Hall's Bridge Road is a dirt road to the left (east), about 2-3 miles after you turn at Norristown Junction. The road sign is missing, so I went by the road. When I got to Norristown Community (just a stop in the road, by-the-way), I had to turn around and head back north to the dirt road, and turn right (east). It's the only dirt road between Norristown Junction and Norristown Community, so you can't miss it. After you turn east on Hall's Bridge Road, go about 1.8 miles. The cemetery is on the left. There is a fence around it with a gate. You can't miss it. On the way to the cemetery from Hwy 221, there is a washout across the road about 5-6 inches deep that you can't see until you're just about on it, so be careful. I didn't see it, and run over it at about 45 mph. Needless to say, I slowed down. If you have a GPS, the coordinates are N32* 31.35' W82* 28.09'. I hope this is the Hall's Bridge Road you're looking for; it's the only one I know of. Take care. Mike Ridgdill Twin City, GA
Wonderful information, I agree to the two Sarah's Again I am stumbling and trying to tie together information and would appreciate corrections and comments. I show that Elizabeth (Atkinson) Daniel remarried becoming the wife of John H. Dixon of Dougherty county subsequently moved to Burke county where her death occurred on August 13,1878, First marriage to Nathaniel one son Henry Richard Daniel the second marriage to Dixon two sons Hiram M. and Edward A. the former a resident of Emanuel County the latter of the State of Florida. The information on Eliazbeth was taken from the Cyclopedia. I have been lead to believe that Nathaniel died in Albany Ga, this is interesting. In some family papers, letters between my gggrandmother and her sister and the Cyclopedia and being a general pest to folks like yall I have gathered John R. Daniell married Sarah Neal Griffis 1826? One son Nathaniel Daniel born 1827 Nathaniel married Elizabeth Atkinson 1850 in Albany Ga One son Henry Richard Daniel 1 July 1851, nine days later father Nathaniel died. I do not have much on the Griffis,do have some Kirkland and Lane and Clifton information.
