Just wanted to drop an FYI for the Edenfield researchers out there. My grandmother, Dorothy Eloise Edenfield (Raiford Johns Cooper) passed away last month. I've attached a copy of her obit from The Metter Adviser below. If anyone has any info on her last husband's family (Herman V Cooper abt 1913-1991 of Candler county), I'd appreciate seeing what you have. Thanks. Dianna Raiford Andersen Eloise Edenfield Cooper Eloise Edenfield Cooper, 86, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter. She was born in Emanuel County and lived in Savannah for many years being self-employed in several businesses. She moved to Metter in the early 1960’s and managed the old Metter Motel on S. Broad Street. Eloise and her husband moved back to Savannah after a few years and later returned to Metter where they farmed. In the early 1980’s, they moved to Louisiana before retiring back to Metter in 1989. She attended Grace Community Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Cooper. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Johns McCormack of Metter; a son, Dwight “Peanut” Raiford of Dellwood; a sister, Louise “Tiny” Walker of Ft. Worth, TX; a grandson and his wife, Craig and Brandi McCormack of Tampa, FL; a granddaughter, Diana Anderson of Woodstock, MD; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, April 24 at Lake Cemetery with Rev. Jon Cook officiating. Remembrances may be made to United Hospice, 667 S. Main St., Swainsboro, GA 30401. Thanks. I used to be on the Thompson mailing list but I moved to Mount Dora, FL and I forgot to send Marilyn my new address. It is her relative that is doing the DNA. I have her e-mail address. I have some old Thompson genealogy sent to me by a Hallman researcher but it is incorrect. I do appreciate the help I get from the few on this site and I try to reciprocate when I can. Thanks Mary Lou. Some say yes and some say no as to the relationship of my Thompsons to Reubin Thompson. I have mine back to Hardy Columbus Thompson bn about 1810. My brother is going to do a DNA and another Thompson that can prove their ancestry to Ruebin is going to do one so maybe there will be some answers regarding that relationship. I sure would like to know who Hardy's father was. Bobbie Thompson Connor **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. Sue, I apologize. I accidently put Robbie Jay Thompson's death date as 1973. It was 12/29/1992. I was thinking of grandmothers death date. Sue, Yes, dad (Robbie Jay Thompson) had a brother Ronald Jack Thompson. I had been told he was a twin of dad but when I sent for dad's birth cert it said it was a single birth. At a later date I obtained grandmother's bible (Martha (Mattie Belle Martin Oliver Thompson). A lot of the writing is faded but Ronald Jack Thompson's birthdate is Apr 2, 1920. Died Jan 29th 1923. I was told he caught fire being too close to a boiling pot. I have no idea where the Blanton in your note came from. I dont have any burial information but the family apparently was living in Brunswick so I would think Ronald Jack is buried there. I have the pages from grandmother's bible scanned to my pc. I would be happy to send you these if you would would like them. Bobbie Thompson Connor I had sent you this privately but decided to share with Emanuel group in case anyone else interested. **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Mike, When I was in Emanuel County last month, I looked up Winny Youngblood Coleman's Confederate widow's pension application at the Swainsboro Library. They have the pensions for many of the Emanuel County regiments available on microfilm in the Genealogy Room, which is a marvelous thing. The Washington Library in Macon has a more comprehensive collection for the entire state, and they will copy the pension and send it to you for a modest fee. Winny was a daughter of Bartlett and Nancy Riley Youngblood, and I have been trying to learn more about other branches of that family besides my own. Winny indicates in her affidavit, given to Emanuel County Ordinary John Youmans on March 5, 1901, that James Coleman served in Co. H of the 48th Ga. Regiment, and that he died "in Fayette Co. Fla. about the year 1886." (There is no Fayette County in Florida, but there is a Lafayette County, in the Big Bend region of the state. The county seat is Mayo. ) It is unclear from the pension exactly when she and James and their children moved to Florida. However, in the 1870 Census for Hamilton County Fla., you will see an entry for James and Winfred Coleman, and their children Isaac, Lucinda, Matthew and Spencer. In 1880, James, "Matilda", Isaac, Matthew, Matilda, Spencer, and Lewis C. Coleman are in Taylor County, Florida. (The current county seat is Perry.) To date, I haven't been able to locate burial information about James or any of the descendants. I see a Lewis Coleman in Emanuel (Stillmore) in 1900, but I haven't been able to research whether it's the same Lewis. Unfortunately, I have no burial information about James, only the county in which he died. My local library doesn't have many genealogical resources for Lafayette County. You might give the public library in Mayo a call. I hope this helps you.
