    3. Carol, Thank you so much for the list of Roberts men that could possibly be Georgia Mae's husband. I had found a W. Roberts, B: 9 Sep 1900, D: Jan 1981 listed as living in Lake Wales, which is in Polk County but the death certificate states that Georgia owned her own home in Lakeland so guess that rules the above W. Roberts out. I have a thought for you. If the second William H Roberts on the list had been her husband, that would have only given her 7 years from the time she left Augusta to be married and have 5 children before he died. I guess it is possible but not probable unless there were twins. What do you think? I will hazard a guess that her husband was William Howard Roberts. I wonder where we can get a copy of her marriage license? Thanks to you and everyone who have been so helpful in this search. I'll keep you updated should anything else develop. Wonder who the Collins was? Gloria Have a nice day, GMK

They have the names of the father and mother included in the death certificate but only if someone knew the names of the mother and father. 3. In the Florida Death Index for Polk Co., FL (location of the town of Lakeland where Georgia lived from 1936 until her death in 2004), I found 4 men whose first name started with a "W" and middle names started with an "H", all named William. I figure one of them must be Georgia's first husband and the father of her children. Name: William H Roberts Death Date: Sep 1965 County of Death: Polk State of Death: Florida Race: White Gender: Male Name: William H. Roberts Death Date: 1943 County of Death: Polk State of Death: Florida Race: White Gender: Male Name: William Henry Roberts Death Date: Apr 1963 County of Death: Polk State of Death: Florida Race: White Gender: Male Name: William Howard Roberts Death Date: 8 Jan 1980 County of Death: Polk State of Death: Florida Age at Death: 57 Race: White Birth Date: 27 Jan 1922 If I had to hazzard a guess, I think either the 1st William H. or William Howard would be Georgia's husband, but I don't know for sure. Anyway, it's great to know that she had children, so there are more cousins for us that we never knew about! Carol Riner Everett

    3. Mike, I don't have any specific information on Mathew/Matthew Coleman, but transfers between the 38th and 48th Ga. are documented. James Dudley, who I have researched in my Strange ancestors' family, transferred from Co. H of the 48th to Co. C of the 38th in 1863. In case you haven't already done so, it would definitely behoove you to look up Mathew/Matthew in the microfilmed muster rolls at the Swainsboro Public Library for both the 38th C and 48th H. Also, it would be worth a glance to the introductory material of Lillian Henderson's "Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia" to see if she explained how she and her staff attempted to account for the inevitable spelling inconsistencies. I would also suggest looking up Mathew/Matthew in Virgil White's "Index to Georgia Civil War Confederate Pension Files." The Swainsboro library has a copy of this excellent reference source. In the event he was married, there might be an entry in this index for a widow's pension application.
