    1. [GAEMANUE] Walker family
    2. Carol Miller
    3. Denise, Hi, I found my Walker file, it is for Elisha Walker b 1761 who married Elizabeth Bower. Sorry, but your W.B. Walker and Ella Fair are not in the file. There is a Jeremiah Walker and a Lott Walker who married a Mary Walton in the early 1800's so they may be related to the same family as Anne Walker who married Charles Kimball. Sorry I can't help. Carol

    3. Olivia, I agree - and have always agreed - that Gracey Jane and Angeline are two different people. What has confused me is the use of the name Annie Jane, Any Jane, Anzane, Zannie, etc. which I assumed referred to Gracey Jane and which you suggest refers to Angeline. I think you are right. It makes sense that Elizabeth and Andrew Jackson (1880 census) are the children of Angeline/Annie Jane and not Gracey Jane and Boney, in which case, Will Faircloth/Goff is probably Angeline/Annie Jane's child as well. See Wm in 1900 census. His death certificate lists his mother as Jane Faircloth which could mean Angeline/Annie Jane and not Gracey Jane. Will's father is William Green GOFF. Do you know who the father of Elizabeth and Andrew Jackson was? Thanks for working through this with me. Back in 2003 there was some brief discussion of this family on this list, so I am hoping some of you can help me. In Feb 2007 I posted some deeds that I found for my 3great-grandfather Reubin Thompson in Burke and Screven counties. One of them involved a sale of 200 acres of land in Burke Co from Reubin Thompson and his wife Rachel Chambers to Charles Kimball. I have learned that this Charles Kimball was probably the son of Charles and Diana Kimball of NC. The son Charles was born in NC but moved to Burke Co Ga by abt 1786. In a 1786 deed, Reubin Thompson and John Michael Burkhalter were chain carriers for 200 acres of land that Charles Kimball bought in Burke Co. The land at this time was vacant all around. This deed puts Reubin Thompson in Burke County by 1786. I also found a listing at Compton's Plats that says he was an adjacent landowner on a 1787 deed in Burke Co, though I don't know if a record of his land deed still exists, or when he purchased it. Information that I have found on Charles Kimball show that he was born abt 1750 in N.C., and married Anne Walker, daughter of James Walker and Mary Sanders of Prince William Co Va. They had sons Walker, Jeremiah, and Charles. Charles married Rebecca Murray of Burke Co Ga, daughter of Stephen Murray. Anne's brothers were Rev Sanders Walker of Wilkes Co Ga and Rev Jeremiah Walker of Elbert Co Ga. Rev. Jeremiah Walker died in Elbert Co in 1806, and in his will he left abt 700 acres of land "on the north side of the Savannah River" to his sons, land he purchased from Robert Chambers. I think this Robert Chambers was probably a son of my 4great-grandfather Jonas Chambers. I'm wondering if the land was in Burke Co. I have found plats for Rev Sanders Walker in Burke Co and figure that Jeremiah also owned land in the area. The Kimball land plats were adjacent to some Thompon ones. In 1791 Charles Kimball purchased 200 acres of land in Burke Co bounded by Stephen Murray, William Sapp, and John Bell (who also bounded Jonas Chambers' land). Also, Jane Tweedy and by Oglesby. In an 1822 deed for 230 acres he was bordered on two sides by "Mrs. Thompson", by Anthony Mills, and by Martin Herrington, also by Addison Sapp. All of this land - Kimball, Chambers, Thompson - was in the southwestern part of Burke Co near the Screven Co border, in the Brier Creek area and just over the line from the Millhaven plantation. I am looking for information on the children of Jonas Chambers and on the relationship of Reubin Thompson to these families mentioned in the plats. I have noticed that the Nicodemus Thompson family and the Murray family passed through Bertie Co NC on their way to Burke Co Ga. I also noticed that Bertie Co is given as the birthplace of Anne Watkins Douglass, wife of Reuben Wilkinson who was a witness to some of the Thompson/Chambers deeds. Reuben's sister Sarah was married to Seaborn Jones who owned land adjacent to Jonas Chambers and also appears on some of the deeds. Thanks for any help or ideas about these families. Carol B. 2. Carol Miller
    3. Carol, thanks for checking the Burke census. I can't identify the Elisha Chambers from the 1810 Burke census. Back to the Beech Branch Baptist listings. Looking again, I found a listing for Precillar Lambert. This name, "Precillar", would explain the "Prcr" abbreviation for the Prcr Chambers listing. I would say that "Precillar" was probably a misspelling of "Pricilla", especially since Jonas Chambers' wife was named Priscilla, except for the fact that there would be no "r" in a "Prcr" abbreviation for Priscilla. So, does anyone know of a Precillar Lambert, male or female? Also, a Precillar Chambers? What other name could this perhaps incorrect spelling represent? Thanks, Carol

    3. Carol, you probably know this already, but I had to go clear back to 1810 before I could find any Chambers listed in a Census Index in Burke County.  Then there were 2 listings then for Elisha Chambers.  However, since the 1810 Census only lists head-of-household, that doesn't really help in figuring out the person in the cemetery you mentioned that was born in 1805.  The Other Carol

Carol B. 3. Can anyone tell me who this was buried at Beech Branch Baptist in Burke Co - Chambers, Prct (b. 1805). This is from the on-line listing at the Burke genweb site.I can't figure out what this obvious name abbrevian could be. There are plenty of Murray,Thompson, Kimball, Rackley, Sapp, etc names also listed but just the one Chambers. I would also like to hear from anyone with Chambers connections to Burke Co Ga in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Carol

Stewarts Jewelers is on Green St., huh? I would be hard-pressed to find it. I haven't made that trip in a long time. I asked Delores for some connections with Robert Stewart and wife Frances Roberts, daughter of Howard Roberts. Also I'd like any Ehrlich connections as well. Shoot me an email if you have time. 1. [GAEMANUE] Hillburn, Hillbourn: Thompson & Murray deeds; Noah Whiddon
    2. Carol Miller
    3. John Thompson's chain carriers on 3-02-1789 were Rubin Thompson and William Hilburn. Stephen Murray's chain carriers from 7-11-1790 were Rubin Thompson and James Hilbourn. Were William and James related? Is this the same surname? I can't quite place these two. I do recognize the Hilborn name from my Barwick/Whiddon research. Noah Whiddon is another name that has popped up on a couple of the deeds, but I can't figure out which Noah Whiddon he was. I didn't know any of the Whiddons were ever in Burke Co. Susannah Whiddon of Washington Co Ga was a 2geat-grandmother of mine. Carol

    3. Yvonne, Well there is the other deed, the one for John Thompson's land, that says his land is near Rubin Thompson's land. Why would it bother saying that if they weren't connected? You might be right about the reference to Reubin's plat though.Usually though I have noticed that they did write out the landowner's name if he also owned adjacent plats. Maybe there are some other plats that might help. It isn't easy digging through the archives and it especially isn't easy interpreting the plats! In my opinion Reubin's warrant would have said John Thompson, or Jno. Thompson if it was referring to him. That little superscript after the S in S Thompson has to be taken into account, and I really think that the clerk wrote "Said Thompson" and was therefore referring to Reubin Thompson, for whom the warrant was written. If I'm right about this, you can't help but wonder how much more trouble was it to write out Reubin instead of Said? It would have saved us all this speculation! Certified Isaac Terry (or Perry?) AS (S or what?) There are some other Murray plats at the website - Dempsey, Timothy, and William. So, there is a John Thompson on this 1790 deed. Is he the "S Thompsons" from the 1796 Reubin Thompson deed? In the upper left corner of the Reubin Thompson deed there is an abbreviation that looks like it could be "Boggy Gut". If so, from comparing the deeds, in 1790 Stephen Murray and John Thompson do not appear to be adjacent landowners. Edward Cato and Anderson Winsdor are between them. But, they could have sold their land to either Thompson or Murray and moved on by 1796. Bo and Yvonne, what do you think?
