For those interested: Do a Google search on Emanuel County Cemetery Book or Moses Coleman and you will find several Georgia County Cemetery books for sale online. I have no interest in the selling of these books. I just think we should be able to let others know where we can obtain materials to help us in our search. Good hunting, claudia
Will someone please do a look-up for me? I have in my database (no source, sorry) that Gracey Jane FAIRCLOTH died in 1898 and is buried in Dellwood Cemetery. I would like to know if this is correct. Also, who is she buried with? Next to? When did that person(s) pass? Many thanks for any help. Denise Denise Lindsey Wells [email protected] 703-241-2549 (h) 703-507-6703 (c)

Denise: Like you, I felt that "Zanie, etc." must have married a Simmons as her fifth husband (if in fact, she is Gracy Jane). If these children were not Angeline/Ann Jane's, then perhaps they were just "adopted" into the family. The reason I say that is because Gracy Jane had already had a child named Elizabeth, born 1861-1863; would she have had two named Elizabeth? 1870 US Census: Emanuel Co., GA - District 46, Swainsboro, Household 103/103: FAIRCLOTH, James L.B. 56, Farmer, b. GA Ellenander 67, Keeps House, b. SC Alexander 22, Works in Farm, b. GA Jane 26, Keeps House, b. GA COLEMAN, Elizabeth 9, At home, b. GA Levinah 7, At home, b. GA (Although Elizabeth and Levinah above are listed as COLEMANs, Jeremiah Coleman would not be their father, as he apparently did not stay long with Gracy Jane and had married Zilpha Durden Rountree December 24, 1861.) 1880 Emanuel County census District 53, Household 102/102: Faircloth, John 20, farm laborer , Elizabeth 23, wife, keeping house , Vina 19, wife sister, single (On either side of them are James B. & Ellender Faircloth and Enoch J. & Rachel Faircloth; on the other side of James B. are Boney & Jane Faircloth (Jane is the mother of Elizabeth and Vina). I have that Boney died "between December, 1879, and January, 1880." Yet he appears in the 1880 census, so this must not be correct. I did not keep my reference for this information. Regarding Ann Jane, etc. being listed as cousin, I don't know unless she was referring to being Gracy Jane's cousin, but there again, relationships of people in the household were supposed to be that of the head. Not much about this family makes any sense to me. We could get some help if some of their living descendants had some information; that is, if we could locate them. Thanks, Olivia, I'll look for the scan you are sending. I just went back to the Faircloth photos that Brenda Gruenewald sent a few years ago. The typed caption on one says, "Annie Jane Coleman-Godwin-Faircloth (also known Zannie Simmons). B-1844 in NC." There is a handwritten X over that caption. Then, in hand-writing, "Gracy Jane - She was known as "Zannie" - her nickname - according to great granddaughter, Lori." Then, also in handwriting, "might be Annie Jane." Lori is in the Youngblood line. I do not have her email address so have never been able to communicate with her directly. The caption for the younger lady's photo says in type, "Not sure of this picture. Could be one of Annie Jane's children from a previous marriage (she had at least 2 that we know of) or a sister." There is a handwritten X over that caption, as well. I'm still thinking that Simmons may have been the 5th husband... Yes, I have received your email to the List on June 30th and have just responded. Like you, I am confused, but here is my rationale based on conjecture unless otherwise stated. 1. I'm assuming that Gracey Jane and Zanie are the same person. Her fourth husband was Alexander Barnabas "Boney" FAIRCLOTH. 2. I think that Elizabeth FAIRCLOTH and Andrew Jackson FAIRCLOTH were their children. While the 1880 census is ambiguous as to the mother of these children, and it may have been Angeline/Annie, Elizabeth FAIRCLOTH YOUNGBLOOD's death certificate states that her parents were Zanie SIMMONS and Bonie FAIRCLOTH. 3. According to my database, Gracey Jane/Zanie FAIRCLOTH died in 1898. Do we know when Boney died? Is it possible he preceded her in death and she took a 5th husband, Mr. Simmons? If yes, when Elizabeth FAIRCLOTH YOUNGBLOOD died in 1945, her mother's surname may have been SIMMONS. 4. I'm assuming that Angeline and Ann/Annie Jane are the same person. 5. I think William FAIRCLOTH/GOFF (son of William Green GOFF) was her son (see 1900 census). Thus, Elizabeth FAIRCLOTH YOUNGBLOOD and William FAIRCLOTH/GOFF would have been first cousins, instead of half-siblings, and it would have been reasonable for them to have relocated to northern FL together as they did. 6. Andrew Jackson FAIRCLOTH's wife was Willa STEVENS. Since Andrew Jackson FAIRCLOTH and Elizabeth FAIRCLOTH YOUNGBLOOD were siblings, perhaps the informant on her death certificate was related to Willa. Here is a mystery... In the 1880 census, Annie, age 30, living with Boney and Jane, is listed as "cousin." Who's cousin? If she is Angeline FAIRCLOTH, she would be Boney's sister and Jane's sister-in-law. Not sure any of this helps, but let me know if you'd like to pursue farther. I have the death certificate for Elizabeth Faircloth who married George Allen Youngblood. Whoever sent it to me, I don't know. It states that her parents were Zanie Simmons and Bonie Faircloth, both born in Swainsboro. I'm soooooooooo confused! The informant's name is not very clear, but looks like Mrs. John Stevens (with same address as Elizabeth). It gives Elizabeth's birthdate as December 7, 1867; I think the typist transposed the 67, because we have 1876 for her birthdate, as 1880 census gives her age as four.
