    3. Olivia, I found the information about Claude at Worldconnect, not certain of it. Am hoping someone on the list can verify this marriage. Claude's parents are given as Ephriaim Leonard Edenfield and Mary Balzora Parrish. It also appears that Claude and some of his family moved to Florida, where he died in Alachua Co in 1966 and Maude in Clay Co in 1985. I am also questioning just when Travis and part of his family actually moved to Florida. Based on the marriages of some of his children in the late 1800's in Emanuel and Montgomery counties, it appears that they may have stayed in Emanuel until near 1900. 1. [GAEMANUE] Travis Hall b 1816, son of Juniper Sr
    2. Carol Miller
    3. Hello list, I'm going to post what I have on Juniper Hall's children, but take them one at a time. I've been working on Travis's family lately, so I'm going to start with him. Travis Francis Hall was born 11/02/1816 in Emanuel Co Ga, and died 9/22/1904 in Emanuel Co Ga. The death date is based on the short obit from the Swainsboro Forest Blade dated 9/22/1904: "Unlce Travis Hall died at the home of his daughter , Mrs. Kate Wickstrum last Monday. Uncle Travis was one of the oldeset men in the county, being about 90. He was one of the most liberal men that ever lived and everybody that knew Uncle Travis as he was, was his friend." I think that his body was moved to Florida and that he was buried on 7/16/1907, which is usually given as his death date. He was buried in the New Shiloh Cemetery along with other family members. He married Martha Moore on 8-30-1848 in Emanuel Co Ga. Who were her parents? I have some old files that say her father was Drewry Steely Moore, but I'm not at all certain that that is correct. There are plats that showed he owned 400 acres and another 40 acres of land. There may have been more. He lived in the area around Norristown, and I remember seeing a post that said his old homestead was still standing late into the 20th century. Does anyone know if it is still there? In 1850 he lived in District 28. In 1860 he was in District 395 where he remained until his move to Florida, which occurred after 1880, but not sure when. I have heard descendants say that his wife Martha always said that she "married at 14 and had 14 children." Here is my list: 1) Martha b 1849, d 4/09/1924, apparently never married, buried New Shiloh Cem, Altha Fl. 2) Katherine (or Catherine) "Katy" or Caty" b 1851. Married ukn Wickstrum. 2) Dicey b 1854. Married James H Hutchinson, who was born in 1854. 3) Mary b 1857. Married Ukn Hutchinson. With parents, apparently widowed, 1880 Em. census, with one yr old son Henry Hutchinson. 4) Lyman b 6/15/1858, d Dec 22, 1927. Married Teresa Williamson on 8/01/1886, Montgomery Co Ga. 5) Elam b 1860, d 1961, Ga. Married Mary Francis "Mollie" Lumley, 11/08/1893, Montgomery Co Ga. 6) Emily Florence b 1864; m. Lewis Cogle Durden b 3/04/1872, Emanuel Co Ga 7) Edeline "Eddy" Hall, b 1865. 8) William Juniper Hall b 1867, called Juniper. 10) George Hall b 1872, Emanuel Co Ga, d 6/05/1956, Altha Fl, buried New Shiloh Cem. Married Harvie Trull on 3/20/1897 Wright Williamson?, Harvie was born 7-01-1879 in Johnson Co Ga and died 11/02/1972 in Altha Fl. 11) Dora Hall b 1873. 12) Francis J Hall b 1875. 13) Algerine "Bunks" Hall b 1876, Emanuel Co Ga died 1961 Calhoun Co Fl, buried New Shiloh Cem. Married Christian Davis on 8-25-1895 in Montgomery Co Ga. 14) Emma Hall b 1880. Any additional information and/or corrections would be greatly appreciated. Carol B. Miller

    3. Grace, The only proven information is his marriage to Martha Thigpen on Dec 1, 1811. This is where the lack of records is a problem. Most people give a birthdate of 1769 but this is based on his being of age in the early 1790's. I don't know of any proof of his actual birthdate. Where did you get 1764? As to a marriage or marriages before 1811, there is absolutely no proof that he married Elizabeth Braswell, this is family tradition and speculation based on his having a son named Kindred and his name on documents involving Braswells .Was she a daughter of Kindred and Rhoda Braswell? Their family records show no Elizabeth. Was she their daughter with a different first name? Maybe. Or was her name something else, not a Braswell at all? Possibly. There is also speculation as to whether Kindred, William, and Mary Darcy were his children. I think they were, but there is no proof. Possibly also, there may have been a third wife, either before Elizabeth or after her, but before Martha. 3. Marilyn, I don't think we'll ever know the exact location/s or extent of the land that Juniper owned. Too many records have been destroyed in Emanuel County for that. He did call it a plantation in his will, and I suspect he owned a considerable amount of land. I included information on some of it in the gedcom file I sent you. There are plats for some of the land Juniper owned and for some of the land owned by his sons, but I don't have copies of them. I know there are some because Inez Brett says she has them, she gave me a list of them, and you could probably find them at the courthouse. This area of Georgia wasn't settled really until after the Revolutionary War, and never really got as established in the plantation economy as did the other Southern states of the original colonies. If he named his plantation, I don't know what it was called. You might notice he did have slaves, but only 9 or 10. We know he owned a lot of land because he seems to have left land to all of his 13 sons. Quite amazing, really. I know that he owned land in the area of Hall's Bridge Road and Norristown, including the land where the cemetery is located where he is buried. Some of the land extended up into the area around Ebenezer Church, and in fact my 2great-grandfather, John Choice Hall, donated some of the land for the present day church. Some of the older children apparently lived in Laurens Co for a time, but I don't know where that land came from. Juniper Jr and John Choice owned land in Jefferson Co, but may have purchased that themselves. One of the descriptions of Juniper's land and of his son William say near McGar's Mill and Daniel Creek. I'm not sure of the location. The military district that Juniper lived in would also be a clue, I don't have that information handy. Of course he won some of the land in Early/Thomas Co in the land lottery, but owned more than one person's draw, so he must have purchase some of it. Some of his sons also participated in the land lotteries, or were granted land for military service. As to what crops, I'm not sure, maybe cotton and tobacco, those were the big money crops. And of course probably corn. Maybe a little livestock. And he may have been into the lumber/turpentine industry to some extent,as this area was covered in pine forests. You'll notice that Lyman went into the turpentine business down in Florida. Juniper did have a long time job as Constable, or Sheriff - the best I can tell he was the constable of Montgomery, then Emanuel, for a good long while. I'm sorry I can't answer these questions any better for you, but that's about all I know.
