There has been a lot on this list about Juniper Hall and I have wondered if there is a connection between him and Hardy Hall who lived in Emanuel during the 1820? census. Hardy had lived in Jefferson CO GA before and originally came from Pitt CO NC. Hardy's daughter Loupine Hall married Parish Lankford. The Lankfords were in Tattnall Co. I would like to hear from anyone with info on Hardy. Anyone with further information on the remaining four children of Juniper, please post anything you might have. Nancy - b abt 1795 married Shadrach Folkes, son of Solomon Folkes and Elizabeth, in 1814. Mary Hall Darcey, from Juniper's will - possibly a daughter of Juniper. This is confusing because Mary was mentioned by her married name but Elizabeth and Nancy, who were married also, were not. But I think she is the Mary Hall who married Joel Darcey on January 6, 1820 in Laurens Co Ga. I think Joel is probably descended from an Edward Darcey who was in early Anne Arundel Co Md and whose descendants moved to Georgia, but I am not sure of Joel's parents' identity. Robert Hall - Robert was deeded land in Early Co Ga in his father's will but I can find no evidence that he ever lived there. A Robert Hall from Emanuel Co Ga won land in Troup Co in the 1827 Ga Land Lottery. A Robert Hall is listed in the 1830 Troup Co Ga census, but I'm not sure if he was the same man. Thomas Hall - some say that Juniper's son Thomas is the one who married Louisa Brown and remained in the area, but others who are direct descendants have traced that Thomas to the Poole Hall of Jefferson Co family. Juniper's son Thomas was deeded land in Early Co Ga in his father's will, and a Thomas Hall was living there in the 1830 and 1840 cenuses, living near Kindred Hall and James G hall, but I don't know anything else about him. Olivia, Who were the children of Nelson Corbin and Nancy Williamson? I have Josephine, Sarah, Tarrell, Lucion R., Virginia, Neal E., and Clarence. Was Felix one of these? What was his birth date? Was B. B. Wilkes Benjamin Bennett Wilkes? Bob Adams Message: 1 Date: Sun, 24 Aug 2008 10:33:19 -0400 From: "Olivia & Larry Braddy" <[email protected]> Subject: [GAEMANUE] Felix CORBIN - G.A. THOMPSON, etc. List Members: I think I've posted this query before, but if any of you Thompson researchers have information on this incident, I would appreciate your sharing with me. I presume the G.A. Thompson was Gaston Allen, who married Emma Mary Ann "Sallie" Sumner; I don't have the daughter's name referred to in the news clipping. Any information at all on this "assault" would be greatly appreciated. Felix Corbin was my maternal great-uncle. Olivia Montgomery County Newspaper Clippings: Thursday, December 15, 1910 ONE DEATH MAY ALTER THE CASE. Swainsboro, Ga., December 9.--The remains of Felix Corbin, who was killed at Milton, Florida, Wednesday arrived at Oak Park in this county last night and were interred in the family burying ground near the old Corbin homestead today. Many rumors are current as to the way that Corbin came to his death. The most authentic report is that Corbin was at his home when he was called to the door and under cover of darkness a volley of shots was fired at him, one of them striking him and producing death. Corbin, who was a former resident of this county, was wanted here charged with assault and battery on the persons of Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Thompson and their young daughter. Sheriff Fields after considerable trouble located him in Florida and with requisition papers went to Santa Rosa County to get Corbin and bring him back to this county for trial. This was about five months ago. Corbin refused to come and under a writ of habeas corpus was given a hearing. The result of this proceeding gave Corbin his freedom. Sheriff Fields then made affidavit that Corbin was a fugitive from justice and Sheriff Collins of Santa Rosa rearrested Corbin and turned him over to Sheriff Fields, who brought him back here. As soon as he reached this county Corbin gave bond for his appearance, returned to Florida and had warrants issued for both Sheriff Fields and Sheriff Collins in the United States Court. Both officers were arrested and placed under bond. Sheriff Fields appeared in feder! al court in Savannah last week asking that his case be transferred to Georgia. This was not granted and he is now under bond to appear in the United States court in Florida. Corbin was the chief witness in these cases and it is probable that his death will put an end to this affair. Corbin was a son of the late Nelson Corbin of this county. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nancy Corbin, and a number of brothers. He was 35 years of age and was physically a fine specimen of manhood. He was twice married, his first wife being a Miss Wilkes, sister of B.F. (sic; should be B.B.) Wilkes of this county. His second wife was from Florida, and she and several children survive him.
I am so sorry that message went to the List. I thought it was private. I apologize to the List. Olivia

It went all the way to the river just down from Dead River; that's where Phillips Ferry was. I've been to the river that way many times growing up. Now it's cut off by the Interstate. (Olivia) September 1, 1828 Ordered that Mathias Adams, Thomas C. Sullivan & William C. Phillips to be appointed commissioners to open a road from Nichols & Co. Ferry on the Oconee River to Ephraim Phillips Ferry on the Ohoopee. _______________________________________ "One cannot be sure of the exact location of the very old roads in this section, but their general courses and stops along the way can be located fairly accurately. In general, the first roads followed the trails and paths of Indians along the streams which connected with settlements in the interior. Some well-known roads in this area were the Sunbury Road, the old Savannah Dublin Road, Old Rebel Road, Burkhalter Road, and possibly more. The Old Savannah-Dublin Road through here, which is thought to have been a branch of a free road built from private subscriptions about 1825, followed more than one course in this immediate area. Whether these different roads were only connectors of the main road and all in use at the same time, or at different times, is not known. One Dublin road extended from Jencks Bridge in Evans County in a northwesterly direction along the Eastern side of the Canoochee into Candler, then crossed the Canoochee and went along with the Sunbury Road, headed northward and westward. Adiel Sherwood's Gazateer of 1837 listed the stage schedule over one of the Dublin Roads from Savannah to Macon as three trips weekly, the fare __18 dollars, and the time six hours. http://www.candlersonsofconfederacy.homestead.com/historyofcandlercounty.html ____________________________________ U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865 about Nelson Corbin Name: Nelson Corbin Side: Confederate Regiment State/Origin: Georgia Regiment Name: Capt. CORBIN: Burial: Corbin Cemetery, Emanuel Co., GA Notes for Nancy WILLIAMSON: First woman to vote in Emanuel County. She was taken to the polls by her son, Neal Corbin. _____________ Here are a couple of more stories about Nancy and Nelson Corbin. I don't know why Nancy's father was so set against Nelson being able to court her, but Nelson had to sneak over to her house after her parents were in bed and she would climb out her window to meet him. One night, she had some other girl spending the night with her. Nelson and a friend sneaked over there, and hid behind some bushes next to the porch. Nancy and her friend wanted to relieve themselves and didn't want to walk out in the dark to the privy. You guessed it; they went to the edge of the porch, hitched up their nightgowns and peed all over the boys. The other story concerns the first time she tried to elope with him. She had climbed out the window with her little trunk packed and was waiting for him. He was hiding in the watermelon patch, waiting for the right time to go up to the house. Unknown to him, a little black boy was in the watermelon patch trying to steal melons. They ran slap up against each other, each thought the other was Mr. Williamson, and both hightailed it in opposite directions. Nancy waited until dawn, then climbed back in the window and unpacked her trunk. You might try any written records from the death in Florida where he was shot. Perhaps the newspaper will have information and more information from Florida. . Perhaps there are also legal records from all the sources involved that may be in the Florida Archives. or Georgia Archives. That county in Florida library where it occurred may have a number of offerings to help you. He may also have a death certificate in Florida though he was buried in Georgia.
