    3. I agree I hat Vista but that is my only option.. Jane Vaughan Tampa, Florida janepres@tampabay.rr.com P.S. My husband had it put in. Sadly he died right after that so I am left with this bizarre program. I have had to learn it and it is strange. 3. Olivia, Until you get Gimp compatible with your new 7 you might want to look into this freebie to tide you over. http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/photoplus/ It works good for me on my XP but not sure if it'll work on 7. The more I hear about 7 the more I, like my XP. I have Vista on my laptop and I never have liked it,, for about 3 years now. I'd rather go back to 98 than have Vista. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Braddy" <olbraddy@pineland.net> To: <gaemanue@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 13, 2009 7:17 AM Subject: Re: [GAEMANUE] Computer problems > I'll try that, Jerry. 3. Andy: I now see that you had sent me a message earlier (which I did not receive). Let me know if you come up with a solution. A Dell rep. told me that Windows 7 has replaced Vista. 3. I'll try that, Jerry. I did Google it, but the fixes I found didn't work for me. I also can't use my old trusted photo editing software (Gimp & I Photo Plus 4) because they're not compatible with Windows 7. In fact, I find that very little is compatible with it. Although it accepted FTM 11, which I have been using on the other computers, I can't find a way to add my FTM files to it. I'm to the point where I'm going to try to get rid of it and put in my old OS. I also don't like this Internet Explorer 8 that came with! For now, I'm going to hook back up to the old desktop so I can get some work done. (I bought a new server because the old one keeps locking up, but at least I can use it by rebooting.) Thanks! 3. Hope someone has a idea of the meaning of "Certificate as a Refugee soldier in the Rev. War? It was signed by Elijah Clark in 1785. My Ancestor was living in S. C. during this time. I have been trying to find out if he lived somewhere else before the Rev. War. 3. Olivia, this is the information I have on my Clements Line. Joseph Everett Clements b. @1861 d. 1890-91 (he was in jail in Scott, Ga for running moonshine.  He was buried in a field in Truetlen County and his wife was very pregnant when she attended the funeral.  He died of pneumonia (?) married:  Martha or Mattie S. or Smithie Jane or Smithy (went by all these names) married @1882.  She is buried in Springhill Cemetery. children of Joseph and Smithie James Riley Clements b. Joe Clements            b. 1888 Maude                     b. 1890 m. Alford Johnson John                        b. 1892 **************************************************** James Riley Clements m. Leona Rebecca Sterling b. 1888 children:  Everett Lamar Clements m. Myrtle Cleo Oliver               Birtie / Osie T. / Johnnie D. / Annie / Maude/ Henry W. / Joseph Owen / Dovie L. ********************************************************************** Everett Lamar Clements m. Myrtle Cleo Oliver (my grandparents) children: James Oscar / Faustine / Everett Lavon / Dawson / Robert Eugene / Rebecca Ann (my mother) ****************************************************************************** *Cannot definitely find the Parents of Joseph Everett Clements (have alot of leads but cannot nail anything down for sure)  I have more on who they married, etc. but this is just the outline of the 3 generations I know for sure. We have done DNA testing to trace the line back further, but cannot connect this much later generation with my line yet. 3. I worked for the Georgia Dept of Agriculture in Effingham County, when I was 16 years old. I was a chainman. We measured cotton and tobacco allotments with a surveyor's chain. Then we plotted them to scale of aerial photographs of the farm fields in question. A surveyor's chain is a metal tape that measures 66 feet long. The length of a chain is 66 ft. So if something measured a 100 chains, it measured 660 feet long. Christy was born and reared in Oak Park, the son of Cleve and Natalie Williamson. The Susan Williamson in your query is probably the daughter of Harold and Bonnie Williamson of Oak Park. I believe she built a house on down that road that goes by your grandmother Parmell's place. She probably brought the book by to your grandmother to read. "Boots" Kersey was Vinnie Lee (1922-2001), dau. of Thomas M. Kersey and Bertha Mae Gooding; she married Thomas Edward Bowers of Candler Co.; perhaps he is the Ed in the letter.
