Greetings to all, I am researching the family of Elisha Hill (c.1775 - after 1850) who resided in the Bowman area (Georgia Militia District 201 (Goshen)) of Elbert County, according to the 1840 census. He is listed in Abbeville County, South Carolina, in 1830, so must have arrived after that time. His son, Dennett Richardson Hill, married Louisa Nelms in 1844 (recorded in Elbert County Courthouse), so the family was still in Elbert County then. Birth states for Dennett Richardson Hill's children in the 1850 Cherokee County, Alabama, census suggest Elisha Hill's clan moved out of Elbert County about 1846. A wife for Elisha is indicated in the 1840 census, but not in 1850. I suspect she may be buried at Holly Springs Baptist Church, outside Bowman. Sons of Elisha Hill living with him in Georgia appear to include Dennett Richardson Hill (b. 1823), Elisha Benjamin Hill (b. 1828), Samuel Hill (b. 1830), and an unidentified son (b. before 1820). Another son, Thomas A. Hill (b. 1814) is already married in 1840 and did not move into Georgia with his father. Any additional information on this family would be appreciated. Al Hill
