Aug. 1870 Census has Martha Ann Thornton at Mt. Hope, Lawrence Co., ALA with children: (NOTE; THIS CENSUS SAYS THEY WERE BORN IN GA. BUT WE KNOW THESE CHILDREN WERE ALL BORN IN COOSA CO.,AL) John, 18, GA (John Jefferson, b. 10/27/1852, d. 5/15/1936, Palo Pinto Co., TX.) Mitchell, 15, GA (Mitchell, b. 5/16/1854) Mary, 14, GA (Mary Ann Elizabeth, b. 1/25/1857, d. 4/10/1886, bur. Towncreek Cem., Lawrence Co., AL) George R., 11, GA (George Robert, b. 8/3/1859, d. 12/12/1926, bur. Oakwood Cem. Corsicana, Navarro Co., Tx.) Mahala, 8, GA (Mahala Rebecca, b. 2/19/1861, d. 8/3/1940, bur. Citizens Cem. Clarendon, Donley Co., Tx.) We do not know what happened to Martha Ann Pearse Thornton after this Aug. 1870, Lawrence Co., AL census. William M. (We think this middle name might be Mitchell) Thornton was probably in the Civil War and could have been a casualty of that war. Any information with reference to William M., his parents or siblings would be appreciated. We have considerable info. on the children of William M. and Martha.
