Rob Ayres is trying to track down MEMORY THORNTON and POLLY HIGGENBOTHAM. He gives their marriage date as February 9, 1831. According to Ann Holloman's book on Elbert County Marriages, 1805--1913, that marraige took place February 9, 1832, Book 30-5, page 200. And the bride's name is listed as PERMELIA A. (Polly) HIGGENBOTHAM. Rob, you might need to be aware of those variations. If you check the index to John H. McIntosh's History of Elbert County, 1790--1935, you'd get the idea that there was a Thornton peeking out from behind every bush. (My copy of McIntosh does have an index; I know some editions don't.) There is no reference to MEMORY THORNTON in McIntosh's book, which is a great reference for anyone tracking REV. DOZIER THORNTON and his progeny. --Jim Lee, Nags Head, NC
