Vans Creek Baptist Church is a few miles east of Elberton, on a side road. It was founded about 1784 by Rev. Dozier Thornton, who was its minister for some 40 years. There is a cemetery adjacent to the church. but I do not recall any legible headstones as early as 1822. There are some rock cairns without names. The book, "Early Cemeteries and Gravestones, Elbert County, Georgia, 1798--1919," does not mention Tom Tilton's Walker Richardson. It does mention Prudence Thompson's second husband, Benjamin Brown, who is buried in a cemetery named Benjamin Brown Cemetery, east of Elberton and south of the old Ruckersville Road--which runs close to Vans Creek Church. --Jim Lee
Can anyone tell me if Vans Crek Cemetery still exists or was it part of the area now under water around Petersburg. Does anyone have a listing of graves for Vans Creek. I'm looking for Richardsons, especially Walker Richardson (abt1757-1822) and his wife Prudence Thompson who married Benjamin Brown after Walker Richardson's death. Tom Tilton
Do any subscribers have access to the published abstracts of early Elbert Co., GA deeds and other records? I am in need of a look-up and would appreciate your assistance. Thank you. C. Ward CMW12635@aol.com
I am searching for information on brothers James (b 1790-1800) & William (b 1800-1810) ANDERSON, born in GA. James married Bathsheba HIGHTOWER 1818 in Elbert Co, GA. William married Bathsheba's sister, Martha HIGHTOWER, place unknown. By the mid-1820's the families had migrated to Autauga Co, AL where William ANDERSON died 1835. James ANDERSON removed in the mid-1830's to Lauderdale Co, MS. He is also listed in Kemper Co, MS on the 1837 State Census and probably lived very close to the four corners where Kemper, Lauderdale, Newton & Neshoba counties are closest. Per Autauga Co, AL estate records of Bathsheba's grandfather William HIGHTOWER, the children of James ANDERSON & Bathsheba HIGHTOWER were: William, Elizabeth, Martha, Jane, Eliza, & Temperance. Per the Lauderdale Co, MS guardianship documents (copies filed in Autauga Co, AL) where James obtained custody of the deceased William's children, children of William ANDERSON were: Susan, Thomas, Roseanna & George. Does anyone have information on these men, their descendants, their parents, or the family's migration path into GA. Carol Shrader Virginia Beach, VA

I am reserching the marriage of Hut Loftis and Maude Scoggins Loftis in 1870. They had one son Charles Wheeler Loftis. CW Loftis married Ella Partridge. I am interested to find any kin on this line. My gg grandmother is Maude S. Loftis. Bill Scoggins
Looking for more info on Thomas POSEY, who supposedly married Mary HODGKIN. I have been told that my ancestor, William B. CHRISTIAN b. ca 1780-1784, married Sarah H. POSEY, daughter of Thomas and Mary (HODGKIN) POSEY, and lived in Elbert Co. GA. Evidence points to this being true, since a Thomas POSEY deeded land to William "for love and consideration" (this was a common phrase when giving land to a relative) and two of William and Sarah's kids had POSEY in their names: Elizabeth Posey CHRISTIAN and James Thomas Posey CHRISTIAN. James T. P. CHRISTIAN gave the name Hezekiah to one of his sons, too. Does anyone know when and where William and Sarah married? Was Sarah a daughter of Thomas POSEY and Mary HODGKIN? If so, I'd love to know how that can be proven. Anyone on the list descend from these lines? Vickie Elam White

Folks, Be on the lookout for the KAK worm. It attacks the Outlook express e-mail system. If you get a dialog box at reboot that says " Driver Memory error" or something like " Kagou-Anti-Kro$oft says not today" you may have the worm. I went to http://www.pchell.com/internet/kakworm.shtml to get a cleaner or go to a search engine and enter KAK. You also need a patch from Microsoft that will detect this thing. Bill Scoggins
