    1. [GAELBERT] Re John Scott
    2. Margie Goodwin
    3. > You need to look at the Georgia Death Index for Mr. Scott. It's an index of everyone with a death certificate. Alabamas" death index starts in 1908, not sure about Georgia. You should look through the years 1910-1920. The index will give the date and county he died in. Also the death certificate number if you want a copy.

    2. I am stick at a very frustrating wall.  His name is John (Jno) Scott b January 1848.  He was born in Virginia (don't know what county) and moved to Ga ???  I want to find the date of his death to get a copy of his death certificate.  I found him last in the federal census on the 1910 federal census at age 65.  I was unable to find him in the 1920 federal census.   If anyone can give me suggestions and any help I would be greatly appreciated. 1. [GAELBERT] John H. McIntosh's History of Elbert County
    2. William B. Baker, Jr.
    3. Jim Lee referred to two books, John H. McIntosh's History of Elbert County, 1790--1935 and Ann Holloman's book on Elbert County Marriages, 1805--1913. I have searched the Internet for a source for these books but all I could find were other people looking for the books. Does anyone have copies of the books that would be willing to look for entries for the family that I am looking for?? As best I have been able to determine, there were three Simeon Hendersons in Elbert Co. Ga at the same time. There seems to be a good bit of information about two of the Simeons but not about my ggggrandfather. My Simeon married Bridget Carroll Heard March 6, 1817 in Elbert Co. Ga. They had at least one son William H. Crawford Henderson, born 1825. Simeon died in Georgia and "Bridget moved to Mississippi with her children" I have all kinds of information about her and her family but not Simeon. Thanks Bill Baker

    3. Just be aware that this book contains MANY inaccuracies. You will still need to verify whatever information you find. -----Original Message----- From: MKingG@webtv.net To: GAELBERT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: 2/4/01 6:20 AM Subject: [GAELBERT] Mcintosh Book Jim, I didn't know there was such a book. I've been trying to find information on my family. Does your book mention James H. King born in Elbert County in 1810? He married Rachel Ayers their in 1843. James was in the Goshen Blues during the war. He was a carpenter and a Wagon Master during the war. I'm trying to find James's parents and brothers and sisters. 1820 Census list William, James and Zuriah as heads but I'm not sure which is his father. Any mention of James H. King in your book? 3. Does anyone know where to find the Tax Lists with descriptions of what the taxes were being paid on? The area that I am looking for would fall into either Franklin, Elbert and maybe Wilkes Co, GA. 1790's to 1820 time frame. Does anyone know if most or maybe all the records for Ga before latter 1800's were moved to the Archives in Atlanta? If you know or can direct me to someone who would know, I'd be very greatful. 3. Rob Ayres is trying to track down MEMORY THORNTON and POLLY HIGGENBOTHAM. He gives their marriage date as February 9, 1831. According to Ann Holloman's book on Elbert County Marriages, 1805--1913, that marraige took place February 9, 1832, Book 30-5, page 200. And the bride's name is listed as PERMELIA A. (Polly) HIGGENBOTHAM. Rob, you might need to be aware of those variations. If you check the index to John H. McIntosh's History of Elbert County, 1790--1935, you'd get the idea that there was a Thornton peeking out from behind every bush. (My copy of McIntosh does have an index; I know some editions don't.) There is no reference to MEMORY THORNTON in McIntosh's book, which is a great reference for anyone tracking REV. DOZIER THORNTON and his progeny. --Jim Lee, Nags Head, NC

    2. Robert D Ayres
    3. Hello, I am new to the list having just tracked down some relatives to Bibb and then Elbert Counties. Someone in Bibb County sent me a marriage index listing for Elbert County for the relatives I am looking for. They are as follows; MEMORY THORNTON (b 1810 - d 1879) + POLLY HIGGENBOTHAM - married Feb 9, 1831, Elbert County one child (my gr grandfather) SIMEON C. THORNTON was born 1846 in GA died 1925 in Memphis, TN - buried in Coldwater, Tate Co., MS. If anyone has anything on these folks or any other Thorntons in the area I would love to hear from you to exchange information. A lookup on the 1850 Elbert County census for this family would be very helpful if anyone has access to the census record. Thanks for any help you might offer. Rob Ayres

    1. [GAELBERT] 1914 birth certificate
    2. Hello list. Am interested in acquiring a birth record for someone born in Elbert County in 1914. I've been told that the state was not documenting birth records at that time. Does anyone know if this is correct? Is it possible to get a birth record from the state for that year? If not, what would you suggest in terms of documenting this birth? My objective is to establish proof of age for this person, for genealogical reasons. The individual's records during adulthood have been conflicting (partly due to deliberately altering them!) Can anyone help? Deanna
