Wiley Hailes, My gg-grandfather b. abt 1775, Oglethorpe Co., GA, married 15 Mar 1810 Susan Jane Buchanan, b. abt 1780 NC. in Elbert Co., GA. This lady was my gg-grandmother. Her maiden name was not Buchanan because Wiley's will mentions, as a daughter of his wife, a Susan Buchanan. I am in hopes that someone can tell me what this ladies maiden name was, where she came from, who she had previously married, were they divorced or was she a widow. Wiley and Susan Jane had five children: Robert b. abt 1811 d. abt 1870 Frances M. b. abt 1813 d. abt 1870 Thomas H. b. abt 1816 d. abt 1875 Seaborne H. b. abt 1818 d. abt 1880 Reed C. b. abt 1821 d. abt 1875 Reed C. Hailes was my g-grandfather and he was elected sheriff of Greene Co., GA in 1868. I have an excerpt from the local paper of the time which is not very flattering to my g-grandfather. Likely because he was in league with the carpet baggers who were in power all over the South during Reconstruction. I would like to know about the families of the other children of Wiley and Susan Jane. I have been unable to locate any further information than their names. Reed C. Hailes married someone named Sarah ?????? Since she was my g-grandmother I would like to know more about her, like what was her maiden name and who were her ancestors. I can go further back than Wiley and I can come further forward than Reed but I cannot, for the life of me, find any of the information listed above. If anyone can help me in this effort I will be happy to give them a Yankee Dime. Gordon R. Hale Jr. Grand Prairie, TX .
Wiley Hailes, my gg-grandfather married Susan Jane Buchanan on 15 Mar 1810 in Elbert County, Georgia. This lady, of course, was my gg-grandmother. Her maiden name was not Buchanan because she had a daughter, also Susan Buchanan, who is named as his wife's daughter in Wiley's will. I hope someone out there can help me find the maiden name of my gg-grandmother, Susan Jane Buchanan. I would like to know who she had married before and when and where. I know divorce was not a ordinary occurance in that time but I would like to know what happened to her first husband, divorce, desertion, dead, what? My great grandfather, Reed C. Hailes, was sherrif of Greene County Georgia in 1866, which puts him in league with the carpet baggers. So be it. I might have done the same thing in his place. I don't have any idea who his wife was other than her given name was Sarah. If anyone can help me in this effort I will give them a Yankee Dime. Gordon R. Hale Jr. Grand Prairie, TX 75050
I have Maxwells in my family line from Ga. Not sure if I can help, but if you contact me personally, we can see if there is a connection. Melanie
Does anyone know the parents or other information on the Isham TEASLEY who married Mary MAXWELL on 6 Dec 1833? Justin Long Monroe, GA, U.S.A.
Looking for any information on where Elias Sanders b abt 1775, came from. He married Mary Carter b abt 1775, who is said to be the daughter of Thomas Carter, and I believe they were from the Carolinas. Gale Sanders
Hope, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The information that I have is that: 1) Simeon Henderson, married Bridgett Carroll Heard, with a child William H. Crawford Henderson 2) Elbert Hartwell Thompson, married Martha Scott, with a child Sarah F. Thompson 3) William H. Crawford Henderson, married Sarah F. Thompson That would make Bridgett Carroll Heard, an in-law to Elbert Hartwell Thompson not his wife. I have a copy of the marriage certificate for Bridgett and Simeon. Your Child #10 below might be a duplicate of the Elbert Hartwell Thompson that Married Martha Scott. Happy Holidays Bill "Hope C. I am searching for information on my great, great grandfather James William Smith. James W. Smith (William or Willis) was married to Mattie Ann or Mattie Elizabeth Russell. In the 1900 census of Elbert County they are found in the Eliam District. Living in the household are 1. William-son-age ?, 2. Charles-son-age 18 born October 1886, (Charles Marvin) 3. Benj. (Benjamin Clark-my great-grandfather)-son-age 10 born May 1890, 4. David K.-son-age 8 born May 1892, (David Kulen) 5. George F.-son-age 4 born October 1895 (George Franklin) Mattie's age at the time of the census was either 41 or 47. They had been married for 27 years at this time. They also had a daughter 6. Fannie who was married to a Walter Bates from Hartwell on Nov. 15, 1892 and a son 7. Samuel Russell Smith had already married Addie M. Mills on January 29, 1897 and a son Willie Ebben Smith who married Mattie Ann Moss Jan. 26, 1908. Benjamin was my greatgrandfather and he was born in Wilkes County I am told. I have lots of pictures and information from James William Smith forward and would love to share it with anyone else searching the same line. I have a lot of pictures of James William Smith and his brothers and sisters but I dont know their names. Would love to hear from anyone researching Elbert or Wilkes County Smith's. I have marriage dates and spouses of all of James William and Mattie Smith's children. I also have 2 store ledgers from a general store in the Hard Cash Community. I have found James Williams Smith and Willie Ebben Smith in these books. The dates on these books are around 1900-1904 or so. This leads me to believe that they may have lived in that part of Hart County after 1900. I have been told that James William Smith was buried in the Bowman Cemetary in 1904 but can find no proof of his death or a record of his grave in Bowman as a matter of fact anywhere in Elbert County. I know that after his death Mattie moved to South Georgia with the remaining children at home including my greatgrandfather Benjamin Clarke Smith. She died and is buried in South Georgia at McRae I believe. Thanks for any help you might be able to give me. I have been hitting this same brick wall for several years now. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

On the 1850 census report for Elbert Co., GA living with James E Anderson and wife Elizabeth is J E Anderson male age 12. I was told by a family member that this was Joseph E Anderson. I am looking for documented proof for the parents of Alexander Mobley b abt 1811 that married Sarah Ellender Meadows. I have been told that Isaac Mobley and Frances Deadwyler were the parents. I have also been told Isaac Mobely and Frances Brown. I need some document proof of the parents of both Alexander and Sarah. Elizabeth Mobley that married James E Anderson (above) is reported to be the sister to my Alexander Mobley. Martin Deadwyler Mobley is suppose to be their brother. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that knows anything about this family and especially anyone with documented proof. I am trying to compile a family 'book' for my mother's 85th birthday next month and I am stumped with parent of Alexander. Thanks for you help. Doris Robbins
Frances, I belive the proof will be in school records that have been recently found in the Elbert Co. GA Courthouse basement. I remember briefly reading in an issue of the Savannah River Valley Genealogical Society SRVGS newsletter, in an article, ( I have a copy of that article somewhere but I'm in the process of moving again, however back issues of the newsletter can be ordered ) showed that Joseph E. Anderson was a student in an Elbert Co. Poor School ( which is now known as a public school ) it showed that James E. and Elizabeth M. Anderson as the parents. On another note, I think we are going to find our Anderson's as well in Oglethorpe Co. GA also the Mobley's will be found there as well. David Anderson
Does anyone have documented proof that James E. ANDERSON, b. abt 1790 NC, & Elizabeth MOBLEY, m. 1818 Elbert Co., GA were the parents of Joseph E. ANDERSON, b. 1837? Joseph E. ANDERSON was twice married. First marriage to Melinda Jane ASHLEY, b. 1842 Abbeville, SC, d. 1871 Elbert Co., GA. Second marriage to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Alexander in 1872 in Elbert Co., GA. There are many descendants of these families still living in the Northeast area of Georgia & Western SC. Hopefully someone has some additional information on this lineage. Any help appreciated.
