Dear Vickie: My Charles A. Jonnikin was born Oct. 10, 1847. We have no further records prior to that. In a deed book there is a Benjamin Journigan in land purchasing around 1802. I know there are Jernigan/Jonnikin/Jonakin in the Ward/Johnston township area of Edgefield Co. between 1790-1840, but who, is still a question. Many from VA & NC migrated to SC after the Revolutionary War. Later with lotteries and land grants they and their families moved to GA & AL. I have a family bible that Charles gave to Florence in 1898. This was eight years after her marriage to John Calvin Temples. Perhaps it was before his death. She was his oldest child.
