    1. Re: [GAEARLY-L] surname Jernigan
    2. Hello Gail and Roger Naomi here Well, well, my world is growing by leaps and bounds. God to hear from you about the Dawson/Jernigan lines. Yes I do have James Peter and Nancy Jernigan Dawson in my files. I wrote a pretty long Email earlier and hit the wrong button and went back to 'you've got mail' screen, so will try again. I show they had 8 children, do you have more? Anyway, I have been all over SW and some of SE GA from the FL line to Columbus and beyond doing my 'addiction' genealogy. I searched for graves of all in my files and one in particular I could not locate was one of J P & Nancy Dawson' sons, Rev Enoch Dawson and wife Amanda F Harrell. Well one time while I was in Columbus visiting my mother in a nursing home, I decided to go to Riverdale Cemetery there to visit family graves. Well as I was walking, as anyone doing genealogy does, I was looking at names. Lo and behold to my surprise, was Rev Enoch and Amanda Dawson buried in Columbus Musco GA . I descend from Fredonia Jernigan a dau of Hardy and Mary Ann Killingsworth Jernigan. I foudn Hardy had died bef 1860, and gmother was b: 1864,so could not have been a dau of his. Always shown on Census records as JERNIGAN, not STONE. I don't know she was ever married to George R W Stone or not, but I did find 2 different marriages for him after my grandmother Georgia Watson Jernigan {nee Stone} was born. Gmother married William PAGE, and were parents of my mother. Did also find that the two of them were students at the Damascus Academy in 1860 and grandmother was born 1864 to Fredonia. She was raised by Mary and two daughters, Clementine and Josephine, after Hardy died. Once Mary died, Clementine and Josephine went to live with siblings, my gmother went to live with Mary' sister Martha that was married to J Bird DUKE and was listed in the census as grandneice. I kind of figure that Fredonia was not married, maybe died at childbirth being so young, for George Stone married twice more not that long after my gmother was born. The last to one Georgia Johnson must have not been good either, for she lived alone with her grandmother in the 1870 census and in the Will for this Gmother, it stated 'IF GEORGIA EVER WENT BACK TO HER HUSBAND, SHE WOULD GET NOTHING FROM HER ESTATE' when she died. Well grandma died, she shared in the estate, and she had a baby Annie Jane Elizabeth Stone by the same George Stone, that was 1/2 sister to my gmother Georgia 13 years younger I have pic's of the two but not together. I found the guardianship papers for Annie Jane Elizabeth Stone {m: Anglin} to one Sophronia Johnson Boland and her husband Boley Roland. I have not found out if these Johnson girls were sisters or not, but I do not believe so as of now! The census I found them on were two different familes but could have been cousins, but gdaus of gmother Johnson anyway. I do have quite a lot on the Dawson, Duke, and other names but don't even know the firstname of the NALL that Letitia M Dawson married. I do know that mama spoke often of the Nall family and I have a pic of a few men that I believe has a Charlie Nalls included. If you send me names will be glad to check to see if they are in my files, for I do have so many. I am carring my lines, my husbands, and my bro-in-laws. but mine is the only from the area which we are speaking about. About 40,000 so far in my computer, so just ask and will be glad to exchange names with you both. Glad that you wrote and I found you. Maybe we can help each other a lot.
