Evans who being sworn deposes and says that he is ninty years of age and has resided in Clay county, Georgia all his life. Deponent says that he knew well Oliver Pedro McLendon who was reared in this county and left here about the year 1885 and removed to the state of Texas going with his two sisters to that state. Deponent knew well the father of the said Oliver Pedro McLendon namely: Seaborn A. McLendon. Deponent says that he knew the grandfather of the said Oliver Pedro McLendon who was Needham McLendon. The said Seaborn A. McLendon was a lieutenant in the Civil War and fought on the side of the South. Soon after the Civil War the said Seaborn A. McLendon went with his wife and four children to Brazil with the intention of living in that country but not being able to use the Portguese language he became dissatisfied and came back to the United States and to Clay County, Georgia in a few months. I have heard Mr. and Mrs. Seaborn McLendon say a number of times that their son Oliver Pedro McLendon was born on the ship which was bringing them back to the United States. I knew well Mrs. James Bell who was a sister of the said Oliver Pedro McLendon, older than he and who died in this county just a few years ago. Deponent further says that Seaborn A. McLendon was a lawyer who practised at the Fort Gaines, Georgia bar for a long number of years and who died in 1892. Deponent futher says that the said Seaborn A. McLendon was a citizen of the United States as was his father Needham A. McLendon and I know that Oliver Pedro McLendon was a citizen of the state of Georgia from the time of his birth until he left this state about the year 1885. Deponent further swears that he knows that the said Oliver Pedro McLendon comes from a long line of respected forbears who were all citizens and natives of this state and deponent further states that he has known the said Oliver Pedro McLendon from the time he was a month old to the time he left to go to the state of Texas. /S/ Henry J.
