People were buried sometime where they died, in the yard, the field, another community or another town, if the water was high on the creeks and they could not bring them back, they just buried them in the nearest place, available......There was no embalming in those days and people had to be buried quickly. Another slant to this dilemma is: there were no markers on some graves, other than a mound of dirt and maybe ornaments or seashells placed on top.......They are all long gone, but in the 1940's there were still cemeteries full of mounds and shells, most now have been replaced with granite or marble markers.
