Barry, I took my scanner and lap-top into the Henry Co. AL Probate vault last summer, and scanned many pages of the Orphans Record for my research.....They all came out FINE! If you can get someone with the equipment to do it for you and forward to you as an attachment to an E-mail, it should work very well.... GOOD LUCK! I am looking for a good source for good photos for James and Isaac Bush, Chloe Golightly and Drewy roberts, all of Early County and probabably that which is now the Colquitt area. I know these picture exist because they are in the County History books. At the libraries and such, the copiers just can not give me a good reproduction like a scanner can. there is a good picture of Isaac Bush on an old Georgia Genealogical magazine. Again no scanner was available at the library where I found it. Any suggestions?
If I were you, I would contact the Miller Co Historical Society and ask them where the originals are for Chloe Golightly Roberts and spouse. someone there has those pictures. Dot in FL

This Elizabeth SHEFFIELD appears to have been Elizabeth Jane ROBERTS who married Isham SHEFFIELD and later married Moses WEAVER. I am reading microfilm of The Cuthbert Appeal 10 Jan 1873-1 Sept 1876. [Randolph Co GA newspaper] >From 21 Nov 1873 "The Blakely News notices the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Sheffield, aged 94 years, 10 months and 13 days. She was born December 5, 1778. She leaves 3 sons, 4 daughters, 23 grandsons, 21 granddaughters, 71 great grandsons, 60 great-granddaughters, 5 great great grandsons, and 5 great great granddaughters to mourn her loss. Four sons, 22 grandsons, 18 [or 13?/type not clear] granddaughters, 15 great grandsons, 6 great granddaughters, and 2 great great grandsons had died before her. She had 1 son, 24 grandsons, and 1 great grandson in the Confederate army. Of these 1 grandson was killed, 8 died in service, 2 lost a leg each, 3 were severely wounded, and 1 slightly wounded. Mrs S. moved from Pulaski to this county in the year 1819." Enjoy! This is not my family. I will also post it to the Early Co GA obituary page. Lindy
I see no Roe--Green marriages in what I have. Joan Herndon Green, Wm. married Sarah A.E. Renfro--10/29/1850 Green, George M. married Martha R. Jones--06/09/1848 Green, Wm. married Mary Ann Sessions 07/26/1846
Can someone who owns the Early Co. marriage books tell me if there are any marriages in the early 1800s between the Roe and Green families? Also, is there a marriage between a male whose surname is Ivey and a female with the given name of Winney? This one would be before 1850 also. Thanks so much. Lisa, Benjamin Tipton, my gg-grandfather, was the first minister of Open Pond church. It was Freewill Baptist. One of my Tipton cousins, Patsy, went there last year. She said that the church is no longer there, but the cemetery is. If you email me privately, I'll send you her email address, and maybe she can give you better directions to the cemetery. When I was in Donaldsonville, summer before last, I found a bit of information on the church in a book about the history of the Freewill Baptist Church in GA and in the History of Early (?) County which contained Miss Dot Harvey's info on Open Pond Church on page 182-4. I also visited Jo Webb whose book on Linkage has information on the Tipton family and others. I don't have the book, but I made copies of pages that were on my lines. On page 380 of Linkage, Jo has Jordan B. McCullers as marrying first, Nancy Walker, and second, Delilah Brown(also in my line). In fact, there are at least a couple of other connections between my Merritts, Tiptons, Browns, and the Jordan McCullers family. I must have missed your earlier post. How are you descended through Jordan McCullers? Mitzi mitzi@cncnet.com
I plan on being in Early and Miller County to research my McCullers roots in December. I still have not had any luck on locating this church. I am putting it out on the list again just in case some newcomers might recognize it. I tried contacting local Baptist churches with no luck. Lisa Vol 1, p 182 is an article called "Open Pond-Midway Church" by Miss Dot Harvey. She states that the pastor was Reverend Jordan B. McCullers who served probably before and after the Civil War. Also, on p 231, it shows that J.B. McCullers, Co. D. 32 GA. Inf.-C.S.A., is buried in Open Pond Cemetery located 2-1/2 miles NE of Jakin, GA.
Check with the Mercer Library. They are the depository for all Baptist Churches in the state of GA. They may have some records or knowledge of your church. Nora
