David Hobbs was a first cousin three times removed. I have his wife's name as Matilda Bracewell (born circa 1828). Do you have more information on Matilda Braswell available? Elwood Padgett

John Rowland and Winnie Bass are somewhere in the family line. (I think) Also, his g grandmother was Vinnie Sirmons married to WIlliam Bryan, then gg grandfather was Robert Sirmons, married to Tiney Darsey. Most of these people are buried in and around Dexter, GA. Specifically at Buckhorn United Methodist Church cemetary. Further back gets the surnames Hobbs, Braswell and Allen. If you should know any of these names, let me know. I am looking for any other information that I can find. Thanks, Lesa

It will take me a day or two to look them up. Do you mind telling me which is your line so that I don't spend time looking up information you already have? From what I have found, Sam' s family was is Irwin County in 1930. I think James Hosea's family is in Jeff Davis during 1910 -1930. Am I on the right track? If that is the right "Hosie" I have his draft registration in Jeff Davis. Sam's is in Dodge. By the way, in 1880 there is a Samuel Holcomb in Habersham County, GA. Living with him is his widowed mother, Charlotte. Just a thought -- could Austin have died during the 1860's and the family scattered? That could explain William living on his on at such an early age. His sisters were probably married by 1870. So far, I have not found Samuel and mother Charlotte in 1870. Another interesting coincidence with names-- Family Search shows Austin Holcomb to be the son of Jonathan Holcomb of Union County, SC. Austin has a brother named Hosea, and one named Samuel. Austin and Charlotte had a daughter named Unity on the 1860 census. Family search shows Austin's mother as Unity Rook. Let me know what you already know and I will try to fill in what I can. You can post here or email me directly. If you do not have access to census records, I can send you the actual images. You may want them for your records. Brenda

Interestingly many of the names on the information you have already provided for me mirror those of these descendants. Thought this may be of help. I am a William (Bill) Sam Holcomb descendant. The following information is what I have compiled talking to Mrs. Eva Noles Pittman(my great aunt)of Gresston & Mrs. Bessie Holcomb Milner whom I met at a Noles family reunion in Cochran. Also I have visited Zebulon Cemetary in Eastman where Bill is buried. His wife Mary Holland died in 1917, but I did not find her gravesite in Zebulon cemetary. Eva believed she was buried somewhere called Cottonwood? I do not know where. I list only 5 Children, (1)Charlotte Victoria(Lotta) married Uley Francis Noles (my Great-Grandfather) She was born circa 1866 & died 23 May 1931. Uley born 17 June 1877 in Washington Co. Ga. & died 23 Jan 1931 in Eastman. Dodge Co. Ga. at his home. Both buried at Zebulon Cem. They had 10 children I will list later. (2)Sam married Mattie Lou Singletary and died Thanksgiving 1924. He is buried Brush Creek Cemetery in Ocilla, Irwin Co. Ga. Mattie was born 15 Jan 1891 and died in Macon on 8 July 1971 & buried at Brushy Creek also. They had 6 children I will list later. (3)Hosey married Neddie ___. (4)Annie married Neal Beddingfield. (5)Becky married Issac(Ike) Evans. She was born 17 July 1892 & died 28 Aug 1915 at age 23. Ike was born 17 July 1892 & died 19 Feb 1965.(one of these birthdates may be wrong as I doubt both born on same day) Ike married 2nd time to Sarah Holland which could be Beckie's sister (one of the children you named.) This is all I know about Becky. Uley & Lotta had 10 Children. (1)Annie Mae born 27 Sept 1893 & died 21 Mar 1964(Zebulon Cemetery) married John Preston Dukes. (2)*Infant (3)Austin Uley (my grandfather)born 14 May 1898 in Dodge Co. and died 05 Dec 1986 in Warner Robbins and is buried there at Magnolia Park Cemetery. He married Avis Georgie Williams. (4)Hosey born 1901 and is said to be buried in Noccatee, Fl somewhere. He had 4 wives [1]Murckson[2]Pittman[3]W.Miller[4]D.Miller. This is all I think I know about him. (5)*Infant *infants were boy and girl but Mrs Eva did not remember which order. (6)Walter born 11 Feb 1904 (Deceased) married Isabelle Pittman. I have more information but not at this writing. (7)Nunie Dock born 27 Oct 1907 & died 27 Aug 1944(Zebulon Cemetery). He married Sara Lee Miller. (8)Winnifred(Winnie) born 13 Dec 1910 & died 26 Sept 1963(Zebulon Cemetery). She married 1st Jimmie Evans & 2nd to Oland Smith. (9)Henry Mailory (S.B., SugarBoy) born Feb 1912 in Scottland, Wheeler Co. Ga. Now deceased and at Zebulon Cemetery. He was married to Dorothy Riles. More info available but not at this writing. (10)Eva Alberta born 14 Dec 1915 in Scottland, Wheeler Co. Ga. She married Charlie Pittman and is the last surviving member of this generation. She is currently in feeble health following a stroke and staying in a nursing home in Cochran Ga. I have more information concerning Uley Francis Noles ancestors and decendants if anyone is interested. Especially my imediate line. [1]James Noles[2]William Lewis Noles [3]Uley Francis Noles[4]Austin Uley Noles [5]Vesta Charles Noles[6]Daryl Glenn Noles [7]Bryant Austin Noles, age 2. Sam & Mattie Lou had 6 Children. (1)Elbert born 14 Oct 19__. He married Lily Perry and is buried at Brushy Creek. (2)Jack married Izallie Buchanan. He was born 20 Nov 1907 & died 13 Dec 1968(Zebulon). (3)Bessie born 17 Jun 1914 married Armond & 2nd to Esther Millner(I think). (4)Alma born 07 Dec 1917 married Buchanon Reuben. (5)Sam married Ruby Smart. He was born 07 June 1919 in Eastman, Ga. (6)O'Neal married Gladys Harwell & was born 29 June 1923 in Cross City, Fl. He died in the 80's and is at Brushy Creek cemetery. What I have on Bill & Sam's descendants is word of mouth and very well wrong. Some dates seem improbable. If you can correct or add anything I will appreciate it.

William and Mary named their first child Charllota or Charlotte Victoria. Others were named Sam and Caroline. William's age on this census certainly goes with the 1870 census age of 15 that I found in 1870. Though we can't be sure that was your William, it certainly is a strong possiblility since he was living there in 1880. In addtion, I saw a post that said Lottie and Uley Noles named a child Austin Uley. Could she have named him after her grandfather?? Of course, all of this is just speculation but I would look at this family. Often chiidren were named after their grandparents or aunts and uncles. I have not found the Austin Holcomb family in 1870 yet. I'll keep looking and hope that William is not living with them! Brenda

The family of Riley Pitts was in Dooly in 1870 with Lewis shown as youngest at 1 year old.
That's what I think also, but I can find no other mention of a Allen. If so then this Allen would have been about 25 when he died. Rebecca here is my great grandmother. You probably won't find any more about him. He must have been born in 1870 after the census was taken. The father's death notice in the paper did not name survivors but said he lived near the Telfair/Dodge county line.
