1. [GADODGE] COLLEEN'S JULY CHALLENGE
2. Colleen Pustola
3. Hi everyone, It occurred to me only today (I've been sleeping...) that you're all sitting out there bored... nothing to do... :) CHALLENGE TIME! The weather is warm... a good time to be out and about, traveling even. This would be a good time to tell all of us about your ancestors who moved from one place to another. Did any of your ancestors take the Oregon Trail, or ANY migration route? If so, what's their story? Even if they weren't one of the overlanders, did they move? Spread the word about those pioneering ancestors and BE PROUD of them! :) Also, I realized I neglected our July babies! If you're one of Cancer's/early Leo's children, the family and I would like to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :) I wish you all just a SUPER Sunday! :) Colleen

1. [GADODGE] 1900 Dodge County Census/ also Cooper/Sapp/Grantham/Miller info
2. I have access to the 1900 Dodge Co census but not the index. I am trying to locate Needham Sapp on the 1900 census. I am browsing the census but am afraid I might have missed his name. He is in Eddins on the 1920 census and in ED 42 on 1880 census. I did not find him in Eddins on 1900 census. Also I am looking for the children of Andrew Grantham and Sarah Cooper Grantham. Sarah died in 1892. So far I have found 4 living with other relatives in 1900 Dodge. Maggie and Walter are living with grandfather Madison Cooper and wife Jane Miller Cooper. 2 others Ida and a son with name starting with J [looks like Jimmie] are living with Sarah's sister and brother in law Martin Miller and Julia Cooper Miller. They are all in Eddins ED 31 (image 18) p 9B. There are 3 other children that I know of : Mary W Grantham (1882) and Fred C Grantham and J H Grantham (b ca 1880). There may be even more children. Needham Sapp was married to Ida Cooper, sister of Sarah Cooper Grantham. Needham is married to an Emma by 1920. I don't know when wife Ida died. There is also another family that the children of Sarah and Andrew Grantham may be living with: Madison Haynes Cooper [b 1863] and wife Selia Darcey This is the general picture of the family: James Madison Cooper was born Feb 1836 in Jasper Co, GA and died 1922 in Odessa, Pasco Co, FL He was the son of Joel Madison Cooper and Sarah Trammell. James Madison Cooper [1836-1922] had at least 4 [possibly 5] siblings: 1] Marion [male] Cooper b 1831; son of Joel Cooper and 1st wife Disedmond Turner; 2] Emily Cooper Catlett b 1834; 3] Mary Jane Cooper Haynes b 1838; 4] Robert Cooper b 1839/1840 [Emily, James Madison, Mary Jane, and Robert were all children of Joel Cooper and Sarah Trammell] 5] and possible unknown Cooper born ca 1870 in Pulaski to Joel Cooper's 3rd wife Mrs Sarah Rogers Lee Cooper Joel Madison Cooper [1810 SC - 1876 GA] had nickname "Wiley" James Madison Cooper [1836-1922] married # 1 Malinda Haynes in 1856 in Whitfield Co, GA. Malinda was the daughter of Smith W Haynes and Martha Towler. Malinda was born ca 1830 in Talbot Co, GA and died ca 1863 in GA. He married #2 Jane Miller 22 Nov 1868 in Pulaski Co, GA Children of James Madison Cooper and Malinda Haynes are: 1] Julia Cooper b 1857 GA married Martin Miller 2] Sarah Cooper b 1859 GA married Andrew Grantham b ca 1852.* 3] Ida Cooper b 1861 Ga married Needham Sapp 4] Madison Haynes Cooper b 1863 married Selia Darcey The Known children of Andrew Grantham and Sarah Cooper are: 1. J H Grantham b 1880 Pulaski Co GA 2. Mary Walton Grantham b 1882 GA married Madison Tolar Haynes Sep 1900 in Volusia Co, FL 3. Walter W Grantham b Apr 1883 GA married Janie Moses 6 Apr 1908 in Volusia Co, FL 4. Ida Grantham b Mar 1886 GA married G L McClellan 18 July 1904 in Volusia Co, FL 5. J {Jimmie ?} Grantham b July 1887 GA 6. Maggie Grantham b Nov 1889 GA 7. Fred C Grantham b GA [ca 1881-86] married Olive I Douglas 4 Dec 1904 in Volusia Co, FL Since the children of Andrew Grantham were in Dodge for the 1900 census and were marrying in Volusia Co, FL by Sep 1900 I am assuming that they went to FL soon after the census with relatives. The children's grandfather James Madison Cooper died in FL in 1922 so perhaps they went to Florida with him and other family members. There is an Andrew Grantham on the 1900 census of Dodge Co, GA but it is not the right age for the Andrew Grantham that married Sarah Cooper. Of course, census dates are often in error. If this is the right Andrew Grantham, I do not know why his children are not living with him. Perhaps he couldn't take care of them for some reason.

They came from Chester, along with his Children. My grandfather had brothers and sister that were in or around Tift County. I guess you have seen both spellings of Rowland/Roland. On James Lawson's Death Certificate it says his father was Perry Rowland and mother Mary Sermons. I just can't find how they are connected. The names are all there! The dates don't match!! My Daddy- Jerry Monroe Rowland remembers going to the cemetery(Chester) when he was little with his daddy Monroe Rowland. I would appreciate any help if possible! Would be glad to email cemetery pictures in groups if you would like. The Rowland Family reunion will be t! he 2nd weekend in Oct. in Chester. Email me! Thanks Laura Rowland Royal

1. [GADODGE] Henderson County NC Estate Records 1838 - 1900
2. I am posting the following for the author of a new genealogy book. These are records that have not been available before now. Henderson Co.,NC was formed in 1838, and in 1861 Transylvania Co., NC was created out of Henderson Co., NC. So abstract for Henderson Co., NC from 1838 to 1900, and Transylvania Co., NC from 1838 to 1861 when Transylvania Co., was still part of Henderson Co., NC If you will email her names you are looking for she will tell you if the book will be beneficial to you. ------------snip------------- These valuable records have been in Raleigh NC since 1960 and never available in any printed form before now. Estate records, or probate records, were generated when a person died without a will. The court settled the deceased estate and in doing so generated a tremendous amount of documentation. These documents usually listed the widow/widower, heirs (children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters), sometimes where the heirs lived, names of slaves who were sold to settle the estate, dower issues, inventories and accounts. In fact, estate records give much more information than a will. I have published an abstract of these records. There are over 750 su r names listed and over 5000 names. The amount of information is truly phenomenal! Click on the URL below to review the book and for ordering. If you will email the name you are looking for I will tell you if the book will be beneficial to you. http://ksummers55.home.mchsi.com/ Kathleen Summers <ksummers55@mchsi.com>

1. [GADODGE] Re Harrell family
2. Yesterday I posted a query concerning Edna Harrell. Now today, I am sitting here, feeling like an idiot. The Willie Mae Harrell I was looking for was born 25 Mar 1899 not Aug 1899. Now that I have thoroughly confused the issue, I have to go wash the egg off my face; however I would still like to know who Edna is.

06/17/2002 12:15:19
1. [GADODGE] Harrell family
2. While browsing through the 1900 Dodge County census I came upon an Edna Harrell widow age 75 born May 1825 in GA; 3 children born; 3 children still living. Living with her in the household is: Martha Harrell daugher-age 24-born June 1875 Annie Harrell- granddaughter age 5 born Aug 1894 Susan Harrell-granddaughter age 2 born June 1897 Willie Harrell-granddaughter age [in months] born Aug 1899 I would like to know who this person is, and who her husband was? And who her other 2 children are? The reason I am asking is that I was assuming that the Willie Harrell listed was the future wife of my grand uncle John Henry Haynes. He married a Willie Mae Harrell that was born Aug 1899 in Dodge Co, GA I had gotten information that Willie Mae Harrell's parents were Luke C Harrell and Sarah Saturday. Luke was born in 1867, a son of William L Harrell who was married to 2 women, neither of them named Edna. I can't read the name very well on the 1880 census, but it looks like Lear age 35 for the wife of William in 1880, which would have her born in 1845 not 1825 like Edna was. Is this a completely different female Willie Harrell born Aug 1899. William Harrel was married only twice that I know of: first in 1845 to Luke's mother Susan Williams [1826-1868] and to Lelia Fitzgerald Studstill in 1870. The "Lear" on the 1880 census must be Lelia. Lelia was still alive in 1900; and William died in 1881. So, who is Edna? And were there 2 Willie Harrells born Aug 1899 in Dodge Co, GA? Are there any of you Harrell family experts out there that can help me?
