Great to hear from you!I am Gloria McDuffie Hayes, and the posting you read was one I did on my husband's sign-in. My grandmother was Donie Lee Pope, sister of Della Mae.My father has pictures of them at a family reunion in the seventies,I think there were 6or 7 sisters left then, and they posed in the churchyard together, there at Pope City Church.Daddy also has a newspaper clipping of Frances Jane Brady Pope's 100th birthday celebrations.(Her name she was called by was "Fannie",by the way.)You might want to contact Daddy. He will be 87 on Sept.15,and has a mind like a steel trap, still. I also have pictures of FrancesPope, made in the late '40's or early '50's,at another family dinner, sitting in a chair with Donie Lee and Laura,I believe it is, standing behind her.A more morbid one I have is of her in her coffin. There is also a picture of her in a little publication called "A Pictorial Glimpse into Pineview's Past",as well as pictures of Redding and Jesse Calvin Pope, I believe.Daddy has a copy of the little booklet, and I am sure he would make a copy of them for you. There is also a collection of books called "The Passing of the Pines"by Mary Lou McDonald which gives EXTENSIVE history on the Popes, and a collection of books called "The Wiregrass Chronicles"by the Hon.Folks Huxford,as well. Frances' father was the brother of the sheriff of Clinch County(Homerville)Ga.,near the Okefenokee Swamp, back around the time of the Civil War and afterwards. He was shot to death in front of Frances,on his brother the sheriff's front porch, by horse thieves who mistook him for his brother. They then shot the brother in the abdomen, and he died later. They and their father served in the C.S.A.,but the father was mustered out for being too old.Frances remembered troops marching across her family's fields. Frances' mother was the daughter of a Preacher, Owen Mulkey, who lived in Clinch County earlier on, but moved to Wilcox County later, and also served in the CSA. Frances was the second wife of Wiley, and she raised the children of his first marriage. There is still a reunion each year, usually around Douglas, Ga. Wiley died of prostate cancer.A picture used to exist in my father's possession of Wiley and several kinsmen posed, but Daddy's second wife became senile and now no one knows what she did with the picture. Turner Pope died in the war and is buried in Tenn. Aren't Della Mae and John Henry buried at Christian Hill? My mother is, too. My computer fried, so I have to go to the Library to use theirs, but write back !I'll answer! Gloria

    2. Colleen Pustola
    3. Hi everyone, This message is going to all my lists. If you receive it more than once, then please, just delete your extra copies. I've received so, so many messages wanting to know what happened to me that I figured I'd better let you all know. My system crashed again ~ twice! After three times in a month, it's been rebuild, rebuild, rebuild. I'm back online since last night and I have to say, I'm glad it's finished (I hope!). Fortunately, I had a lot of my data backed up so all these crashes didn't cause a total loss. As a result of being offline for so long, I'm now horribly behind in answering email. I'll respond to those of you who are awaiting replies just as soon as I can. The earliest messages will be answered first. If you're on a list that receives the Sunday Morning Coffee, then yes, I will join you for Coffee tomorrow. Hmmm, anything else? I hope you're all having a SUPER, SUPER Saturday!... Sunday, if you're down under! :) Colleen

I am seeking. Actually, I am trying to find out if there was a 'live birth' prior to the birth of my friend. She noticed on her own birth cert. that she was NOT the eldest child, as she had grown up believing. She asked me to check into it, since I already do much genealogy research. Neither if her parents are still living. She suspects a cousin might actually be a sibling. Would you know of another avenue I might take? Thanks, again. Lynn

John Kelly is the Probate Judge. Birth certificates are not entirely open to the public for privacy concerns of the living. However, if it is your birth certificate you are trying to obtain, I would suggest contacting the Probate Court in Eastman. Otherwise, for genealogy, I would suggest census records. 1. [GADODGE] Information on the Alligood and Cannon families in Dodge Co 1900's
    2. June
    3. Hi, I am June. Your query caught my eye. I am always interested in Dodge Co. I looked up some info on the families out of the Tad Evans books. A newspaper clipping from July 19 1906 states: SON IN LAW SHOOTS HIS FATHER IN LAW Helena, Ga. July 18 About 8 o'clock this morning at Mathew's mill, one mile from this city, a white man named Cannon was shot and instantly killed by his son in law, a boy about 18 years old, named Alligood. Alligood and Charlie Cannon, a son of the dead man, had a fight yesterday and it is said that the elder Cannon went to the mill this morning for the purpose of taking up the quarrel and a row resulted, Alligood shooting Cannon while Cannon was advancing on him with a knife. Alligood claims self defense, and telephoned the sheriff to come after him and he is now in custody. He will be held until the coroner's investigation is learned, which will probably be this afternoon. the young man referred to in the above dispatch is Julian Alligood, a son of Mr. J. J. Alligood, who formerly resided in the Isham Spring neighborhood. ******************* Here is another one from Thursday Sept 26 1918: DEATH OF MISS MAY ALLIGOOD Miss May Alligood, the thirteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.J.Alligood Jr. of near Friendship, died in Macon Sanitarium Wed afternoon, following an operation for appendicitis that was performed Sunday. The body will be interred at Cochran this, Thursday, afternoon. The bereaved parents have the deepest sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sorrow. ************************* Also here is one that may be of the folks you are looking for. Thursday Aug 6 1908 MARRIED Mr. Eugene Maddox and Miss Belle Cannon were married at the home of Rev. George W. Evans Sunday evening. ***************************** GOSSETT-ALLIGOOD Miss Flossie Mae Gossett and Mr. J.J. Alligood were united in marriage Saturday afternoon of last week in the office of Ordinary J.F. Coleman at the court house, Judge Coleman performing the ceremony. the bride gave her age as nineteen, and the groom is said to be about 65. Mr. Alligood was formerly a citizen of this county for many years, but is said to have been recently residing in Macon. That city is also said to be the home of his bride. After spending Sunday and Monday with his relatives in Dodge, they returned to Macon Tuesday morning. **************** On Thursday April 19 1928 Mr. Julius Alligood was a pallbearer for the funeral of Mr. S. Raymond Andrews (it doesn't say they were related). ******************* Thursday May 3 1928 ALLIGOOD-PARKERSON Miss Mattie Lee Alligood and Mr. W.L. Parkerson, Sr. both of Eastman, Route 8, were united in marriage Sunday at the home of Rev. J.B. Evans, he officiating. The bride is a daughter of Mr. Julius Alligood and is 19 years old. The gentleman is a prominent farmer and is 61 years old. ************************ Thursday Sept 20 1928 ALLIGOOD - ROGERS Miss Lillie Bell (the spelling has no e) Alligood and Mr. Eugene Rogers were united in marriage Saturday afternoon in the office of the ordinary at the court house, the ceremony being performed by Rev. R.G.P. McKinnon. The bride is the daughter of Mr. Julius Alligood and the twin sister of Mrs. W.L. Parkerson, Sr. The groom is the son of Mr. John Rogers. *************** This is all I found. Hope it helps you. After that they are not mentioned anywhere in the county. The Parkersons marriage should be easy to follow because they are quite prominent in Dodge Co even today.
