Flat Rock is located around the intersection of Browns Mill and Evans Mill roads. Lyons Road is on the west and Flat Rock Road is on the east. Hello: I have been poking around on the internet and find that was a community called Flat Rock near Lithonia, GA. There is a new elementary school built on Evans Mill Rd., called Flat Rock elementary school. This is in S DeKalb GA and see if you can contact the Elementary School, the City of Lithonia, and see if they can tell you anything about this community. Contact the Atlanta History Center and see if they have any records on this community. May I pass these two letters on to a lady by the name of Mitchell who was a Masters before she married. She might like to have them. Will give you her name and telephone # when I can find it. She might be able to assist you in this community also. Please contact me at sdholland@mindspring.com Shirley
I am researching Flowers , Braswell , Hunter families. Roy Hunter
I am researching ancestors who lived in Flat Rock, DeKalb County, Georgia, at the time of the 1860 and 1870 censuses. First, I am seeking a better idea of exactly where Flat Rock was. I know it's somewhere in the vicinity of Highway 155 and South River, but from other descriptions I've found, I'm assuming it was larger than what I originally thought. And, I'm not sure if it was on the east or west side, or both, of Highway 155. Also, I am seeking information about a grave in Master's Cemetery. I have Franklin Garrett's 1931 readings of it, but after visiting the cemetery some years ago, I realize he did not have an ancestor, Lucy Primrose, on the list, although I saw her above-ground grave when I was there and took pictures of it. What I did not take a close-up picture of was the above-ground grave next to Lucy's. I am trying to determine who was buried there, and I assume it was one of her three husbands, because of the arrangement of the two "boxes." If anyone has suggestions on helping me with these two questions, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Coleen
Anyone researching Flowers-Braswell-Reeves-Hunter families ? Roy Hunter
I am looking for information on the family of Jeptha E. & Virginia Ann CHEWNING George. Jeptha Ernest George born about 1825 died unknown married Virginia Ann CHEWNING, born about 1833 to William Fulcher & Lorena Winaford LANE Chewning & died before the 1880 census, 05 March 1850. Children William F. George born May 1852 died unknown married Isabella ‘Bell’ S. Willingham, born May 1860 (1900 census) or 03 August 1855 (Death Certificate) died 09 June 1923, 23 August 1871. Children: Mertice George born June 1879 married -?- Pearless, daughter Virginia V. Pearless born January 1898 (Mertice is three in 1880 census) Lilly Pearl George born March 1881 (Is two or five in 1880 census) In 1910 is listed with her parents as Lillie B. Palmer, Widow (who was she married to)? Virginia Bell George born 1879 (Nine months in 1880, so probably September 1879) William Fulcher George Jr. born June 1884 Florence George born about 1861 DeKalb County, Georgia died unknown. May have been the wife of Daniel N. Anderson of Cobb County, Georgia. Bertha George born about 1869 Jeptha Ernest George born about 1873 May be the Jeptha married to Ethel in DeKalb County. Appear as a family in 1860 & 1870 censuses; 1880 Bertha & Ernest are living with older brother William & his family while Florence is living with my third great-grandparents Captain Hardy Isaiah & Laura Sophia CHEWNING Randall. Questions: Who were Jeptha Sr.'s parents? When did Uncle Jeptha & Aunt Virginia die? Where are they buried? Who is the Jeptha George in the 1900 Atlanta, Fulton County census who only has his name listed? When did each of the George children die? What Sims did Bertha wed? And any other information that would be useful for this family history, I will gladly share what I have thus far on the Chewning family (though getting past William Fulcher Chewning to his parents has proved to impossible so far), Lane family & Randall family. Thank You, Lena
