Children: Leroy Jacob Cone, b. abt 1832, Catharine, b. abt 1835, and George Reuben, b. abt 1838, all children born in GA. The county in GA where this family originated is unknown. Does any of this ring a bell? BTW, I grew up in Decatur County in the Attapulgus area. I knew Stricklands and Millers. Were yours around Attapulgus? 1. [GADECATU-L] John Newton / Butler Cemetery
    2. Richard White
    3. I have verbal history that my great great grandfather John Haire (b. 1825) had a half-sister named Carrie, who married John Newton. John Haire married Eliza Butler and as a consequence they and many of their descendants are buried in Butler Cemetery between Whigham and Calvary... which of course is in Grady County now, but until 1905 it was in Decatur County. I visited Butler Cemetery last Sunday, and noticed that there is a grave marker near my great great grandmother Mary McQueen Autry's (b. 1832), that is inscribed "J.D. Newton, husband of Carrie Newton". Presumably that would be John Newton. There is no grave marker for Carrie Newton that I could see in Butler Cemetery, and I do not know if her last name was Haire or some other name... i.e., I do not know if John Haire and Carrie Newton were related through their father or mother. I'm not certain, but believe that John Haire and Eliza Butler came to Decatur County from Florida, and I know that they were in Liberty County, Florida, for awhile... but I do not know where in Florida the were from before that. I was hoping that if someone had information on John Newton and his wife Carrie that they could share... that might help me find the Haires that I have only been trying to find for 25 years, now... <G> Richard White Tallahassee

    3. Don... There is an extensive genealogy of the Prevatts, including the branch that settled in Decatur County, on the Broderbund Family Tree Maker site. It was put up by... I think his first name is Keith... Pervatt (his branch of the tree went North and reversed the order of the second and third letters of the name... I do not know if there was any connection between those two events. <G>). I have some information on Decatur County and North Carolina Prevatts who served in the Confederate Army on my site at http://pone.com/ts/rw0x.htm now and I have more that I will be putting up about the North Carolina Prevatts as soon as I can find time. Most of my lines... No, make that *ALL* of my lines go through Decatur, Grady, or Thomas counties at one time or another. Would you be any kin to Louie Elwood Sellers? 3. Hi Tim, I didn't realize it before, but we share a common ancestor. My line comes from Nellie Morgan Nichols, who married 2nd John Murkerson on 25 Dec 1854 in Randolph Co. Their son John Ross Murkerson is my 3g grandfather. I just found this information out, last October when I was home and was able to transcribe some cemeteries. Do you know much about Nellie Morgan or her family. I will be glad to share what information I have on this other side of her family with you. 3. Good Evening Everyone, Just a short note to let all of you know that, currently the marriage index is lacking only the "S"s and part of the "W"s inorder for it to be complete. Jan Smith is currently working on the "S"s and Brenda McNair on the "W"s. I am hoping that in the next week or so, that they will be on-line and it will complete the index. It has come to my attention that some are experiencing problems with the loading of some of the pages from the marriage index. I have started working on a text file of the entire index and I am about 2/3s of the way thru it. Hopefully, by this weekend I will have it finished and uploaded inorder to help eliminate problems that a few are having. If just 1 person is having a problem with getting to information on the site than that is 1 to many. If you do have any problems getting to information please drop me a line and let me know, so that I can fix it for you. Also, thanks to Ida Kirkland Boyce, I have placed on-line today 30 cemetery transcriptions, with approximately 40 more to be loaded within the next few days. Most of these transcriptions were completed back in the 1950s, but have a lot of good information contained within them. Lastly, I know that most lists don't like to have ROLL CALLS, however, since this list now has almost 100 people subscribed to it. I am opening up the list for the next several days for people to submit messages letting everyone know the surnames that you are researching. I do ask however that the SUBJECT line contain something other than ROLL CALL as the subject. Include in your messages any information about those surnames that you fill would help someone connect with you. If you have any suggestions for improving the Decatur County pages, please let me know. With all of that said. Have a good night and happy hunting.
