I have long hoped for someone from your family line to discover my Dade County query. According to the 1870 Census for DeKalb Co, AL, our Thomas Payne and Louisa Powell had seven living children at the time of that enumeration. Your John J. Payne was listed in that household as an 18 yr old male, born in GA. He had an older brother (James F.) who was age 20, and a younger brother (Uriah H.) who was age 16. I have not been successful in finding the descendants of any of these three older children---nor any for the younger four children in that same 1870 household. Please be assured that I will be delighted to share information with you, and I do hope you will be able to offer some help with compiling the data on this missing family in our Payne history.
