If your ancestor fought in the Civil War (or another war) and if his wife survived him it is possible she might have applied for a pension. If this is the case, she was probably asked for a marriage date. Sometimes the widows even sent their marriage certificate to prove a marriage date. Sue (Dade Co GA)
