My great grandmother was Eva Bates, before she married my ggrandfather. The problem is I know very little of her parents. Her father was supposed to have been a teenage full blood Cherokee who married a 30 something year old Dutch lady. I was told her father pretty much lived most of his life somewhere in the northern part of GA. Sounds to me like one of the two northern corners. And probably died there. No one knows or can remember the Dutch ladies name, so the only name we have is Eva's maiden name of Bates. I am not even sure if this is her fathers name. It sounds like her parents didn't stay together long and her mother married a couple of time at least after the first time, so it may be a step fathers name. Eva was supposed to have been born in 1866 in GA. Since her father was so young when he first married. I wonder if he wasn't married again and had other children and possibly this story has been told in that family. Has anyone ever heard this story.!
