I haven't checked on rolls, because I figured that not knowing his first name would hinder me finding anything. My mom's family has just always said that he was a full blood Cherokee, and I think that they believe the reason she really married him is because she was in her thirties and wanted a child. They didn't stay together and my GGrandma ended up in Dekalb County Alambama, where she ended up marrying my GGrandpa. The biggest problem is she died when she was 32 in an asylum in Tuscaloosa. I got her records hoping they might say who her parents were but they didn't say anything about her father and only mentioned her mothers health and not her name other than Mrs. Bates. It is so frustrating! I was hoping so much that maybe someone might have been told that their ggrandfather or something had a child from another marriage and maybe the pieces of the puzzle would come together. I'm not even sure which part of GA. My uncle just said that he lived and died in the corner of the state and I believe it was where Ga, AL and TN. meet, but am not positive. I'm sure it is something that I will probably never find out, but I will keep trying. I have a distant relative who seems to have found her on the 1880 Dekalb Co. Alabama census. I'm not sure about 1870. She was born in in 1866, so they may have already gone to Alabama by 1870. I'm just not sure. Thank You, JoEllen
