Donna, Jim Avans is buried in Brown Gap Cemetery next to Sophia Avans. There are no dates on his tombstone but the dates on Sophia's are Apr 9, 1868 - June 22, 1924. It was my understanding that he died before she did but I may be wrong on this. Charles W. Mason (1872 - 1935) and his wife, Zelma L. Mason (1896-1943) are also buried in Brown Gap Cemetery which I'm sure you know. There is a granddaughter (or gr-granddaughter) who still lives here in the county. However, her telephone number is non-published. A couple of people are researching Jehu Bostain. I think he was in Henry Co GA before coming to Dade Co. Beverly: Jim Avans did not die before Sophie. He married twice after she died. I had seen the name Isabelle before. Don't know when he died but several of his great grandchildren remembered him. Carl Smith is a great grandchild of Sophie and Jim but I am not sure if he knows the names of the second and third wives. Sue: An addition to my last message. You are correct the Bostains came from Henry Co. to Dade. Jehu Bostain married Francis Morgan, daughter of Wm. and Nancy Morgan in Henry Co. Paul

Sue, Thanks for the info. I saw a listing for a James W. Avans in the 1870 census,son of Francis M. Avans, but knew this couldn't be the right one as he was 7 years old in this census. That would have meant he was born about 1863 and Charles was born in 1872 - so must have been another Jim Avans.
