This Outgoing message has been scanned by Norton's Anti Virus 2003 and is virus free. Sue, I noticed where you said you were transcribing "Dade County marriage book "B" & are well past 1871" and "Dade County marriage records are back to 1866 with a few prior to that time that were recorded late." Does that mean there is a Dade Co. Marriage Book "A" for earlier dates? I 'thought' my G Grandparents, Louisa D. Hale and Alexander Rhodes Morrison were married in Dade Co. GA in either 1859 or 1860 (since Louisa's father, Mark Hale was listed there in 1860 census) and wondered if any records go back that far? It is possible they could have married in Walker or Murray Cos. because I believe that Alex. Morrison lived in both of those counties but I don't know the history of how the county lines changed. Nell ----- Original Message ----- From: <deerrun@mindspring.com> To: <GADADE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2003 9:14 PM Subject: [GADADE] Murray/Satterwhite & Mason/Irwin Sarah, I've been transcribing Dade County marriage book B and am well past 1871. I also have the Delta publication which you mentioned but did not find George E. Murray and Susan Elizabeth Satterwhite. I've checked this before for someone else and I don't think they married in Dade County but can't remember what I found. I tried DeKalb County AL marriage records but didn't find anything there either. Linda Wilson.... isn't Susan Elizabeth Satterwhite related to one of yours? They weren't in Dade County 1880 census. Was Susan Elizabeth Satterwhite the daughter of David Satterwhite and first wife, Mary E. Beckham? As far as a marriage record for James Alexander Mason and Rachel Nettie Irwin... they were married in Walker County GA and can be found in Walker County marriage book 5, page 233. If you will telephone Probate Judge Foye Johnson's office in LaFayette, they can mail a zerox copy of the record to you for a small charge. Or I can get a copy for you when I'm in LaFayette which will probably be one day next week. You asked the question about original records in Walker and Dade County. Walker County marriage records go back to 1883 with a few recorded late that took place prior to 8 Feb 1883 when the courthouse burned. Dade County marriage records are back to 1866 with a few prior to that time that were recorded late. Sue
Sue, Thank you so much for finding the book and page number of the Mason/Irwin marriage. That will save me a lot of time and effort. I appreciate your offer to pick up a copy but I will also be in LaFayette next week for a business meeting, and now that you've helped me on where to go, I'll get a copy then. Susan Elizabeth Satterwhite was the daughter of David Satterwhite and Mary E. Beckham. George and Elizabeth Murray are sorta hidden in the Dade 1880 but I finally found them a couple of months ago. They are living with Margaret Moreland (hope I read this name correctly) household #342 in Upper 129 District page 31B. Susan Elizabeth is listed as Lizzie and four of their kids Mary (my husbands line), Jasper, Janice and Grace. George and Elizabeth and all of their kids except Mary went with James Keith to Indian Territory in 1899 and left out of Rising Fawn. Since the Satterwhites were from Dade and several of the census records give George's bp as Ga I assumed the marriage info I had was probably correct. This could easily be a bad assumption. I'll look a little broader. I appreciate all of your help. Sarah
