    3. Virginia: Tavner moved to Hamilton Co. between 1838 and 1839 according to his sale of property and acquiring property in Hamilton. I have believed that Jesse Powell, jr was born in TN that Jesse. and Hixie moved at the same Time Tavner did. and that the remainder of their children were born in GA. Below is a copy of the deed where Hixie got the land. This would have been very near Tavner's land. Neither Elizabeth or Emily are in the 1850 census. Dade Co. Ga. Land Book B. p.160 Elizabeth Powell and Emily C. Holmes of Dade Co. sold to Hixie Powell on 19 Aug. 1854 for $5 five acres part of Lot 120 - 10-4 on the East side of Lookout Creek beginning above the Blue Springs on a Black gum tree marked with an "X" and hence running east until you strike the original line between lots 120 and 121 to a stake and hence north to a sugar tree on the bank of the creek marked thus "X" and thence up the meander of the creek to the beginning of the corner first marked. J.L. Powell and J.J. Brown witnessed the deed. Paul Some of my families: Morgan, Davis, Nichols, Martin, Vance League, Morris, Strait, Addleman, Armitage Prince, Prindle, Ganoe, Whitley, Walker, Bailey, Baker, Bullock, Mean, Mead, Landers, Countiss, Gass, Thompson, Ives, Merriman and quite a few more. ----- Original Message ----- From: Vingina Finley To: GADADE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, January 19, 2004 10:41 AM Subject: Re: [GADADE] Jesse POWELL & Hixie MARTIN lived Dade County, GA. & Warren County, TN. 2. Vingina Finley
    3. PAUL: THIS IS ALL I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND OR DOCUMENT ON MY BENJAMIN MARTIN HOWARD (AFTER ALL THESE YEARS) Benjamin Martin Howard lived in Jackson County, Alabama; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Marion County, Tennessee; Union County, South Carolina. Benjamin Howard sold his land and moved to Indian Territory. Wanda J. Shelton (granddaughter of Thomas Harvey Howard) obtained the following information concerning Benjamin Howard - he is listed on the 1850 census in De Kalb Co, AL.??); He is listed on the 1850 Marion Co, TN. 8th Dist. page 26. There is a Benjamin Howard on this census.1860 census for Jackson Co, AL.; 1870 census for Marion Co, TN. The 1860 Jackson, Alabama census lists Benjamin as being born in Georgia, a Laborer and $1190 personal property. The 1870 Marion Co, Tennessee Census lists Benjamin "MARTIN" as being born in Georgia about 1829/1830. Benjamin Howard probably married Julia (last name unknown but we believe her surname might be O'Neal as O'Neals lived in Sequatchie Valley, Marion County, Tennessee and Dade County, Georgia) in Georgia where Ben was born. Benjamin raised his family in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, located in a narrow valley, the beautiful Sequachie Valley, nestled in the Appalachian Mountains (This land once belonged to the Cherokee Indians as was Marion County, Alabama. and Dade County, Georgia.). and Stevenson, Alabama. After the death of his first wife, Julia, Benjamin married a young widow Rhoda Elizabeth Powell-Steadman who had one son, Jefferson Davis Steadman. Benjamin Martin Howard died about 1879. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Oral Howard family history is that the 1st wife of Benjamin Martin Howard was Choctaw Indian. Note: Thomas Howard and his wife Letty "Hatchett Grey" Durham ARE NOT the parents of this Benjamin Martin Howard as has been reported. There is no documentation as to whom are the parents of Benjamin M. Howard but definitely Thomas Howard and Letty Durham are not his parents, Letty Durham was well past "child-bearing" years when our Benjamin Martin Howard was born in 1829. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx South Pittsburg, Tennessee is located in a narrow valley, the beautiful Sequachie Valley, nestled in the Appalachian Mountains. This land once belonged to the Cherokee Indians as was Marion County, Alabama. and Dade County, Georgia. Note: Sand Mountain is across the Tennessee River from Bridgeport, Alabama. It runs from South Pittsburg , Tennessee. to below Albertville, Alabama. It is a long wide and flat plateau with sandy soil. A lot of potatoes are grown there. Sand Mountain at one time (maybe still is) was the mostly densely populated rural area in the U.S.. Long Island is in the Bridgeport area and used to have a ferry that ran to it. I am not sure if the island is still above water since TVA built Guntersville Dam and the lake of the same name. Anyway the area you are interested in is in Jackson County, Alabama. The county seat is Scottsboro. Dade County lies in the extreme northwest corner of Georgia. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north and Alabama to the west. Dade County was formed in 1837 from the western portion of Walker County. The county seat is Trenton. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Check the Marion County, Tennessee records, 1876. Benjamin Howard is listed on the following Federal Censuses: 1850 DeKalb, Ala., 1860 Jackson Co, Ala., 1870 Marion Co, TN., 1880 Marion Co, TN. His widow, Rhoda is listed on the 1900 Federal Census for Hill Co, TX. and the 1910 Tarrant Co, TX. Family members (Joseph Martin Howard) say Ben was from Chattanooga, TN. 2. betty or gil allison
    3. In the book, The Civil War Comes to Dade County, there is a roster for the 104th Regiment GA State Troops. In the list is a J M Reudleman, Surgeon. Does anyone know about him? I have a Dade ancestor who gave a son a middle name of Rendleman which on the surface appears to be a surname. A coincidence lies in the fact that the father of this son and this JM Reudleman are in the same roster list. My ancestor, Hugh Lawson White Allison named a son, James Rendleman Allison, dob 1863. His next son was Michael Morrison Allison, dob 1865, again the Morrison appears to be a surname. Have often wondered if Rendleman and Morrison were clues to past unknown relatives. There is also a William Morrison listed in the roster of the 104th. So my reasoning is asking if there is an Allison relation to these two names. Any clues or knowledge of these two men would or might help... thanks... Gil
