My Doc Stephens was b. 1820-1823 in TN and Jane was b. abt 1825 in NC. They both appear to have died about 1900 or so likely in DeKalb County, AL. They did have one son William John Stephens who went back to Dade County and most of those still in that area are either his or Shadrac's descent as far as I can tell. I recently visited Gib Dock Cemetery and I don't remember finding my ancestor, but could have missed his grave, I guess. I have never seen Jane referred to as Denie in any of the records (land and censuses mostly). Let me know more about Doc and Denie; even if not my direct line, I'm guessing they're related.

    1. [GADADE] map of Dade County
    2. Several times someone has asked about locations in Dade County. Listed on the following site (by following links) you can view maps of Dade County in various years... from early until 2001. Not all show the mountains (Lookout Mtn or Sand Mtn) but one of the 2001 maps is a topo. It not only shows the mountain ranges but also Lookout Creek in the valley along the foot of Lookout Mountain from the Alabama line north to Tennessee. Several people have said creeks and/or rivers do not flow north... yes, they do... Lookout Creek does! You can also see the locations of Rising Fawn, Trenton, Wildwood and other communities in most of the maps. The first page will show a map of the state of Georgia with all counties mapped in. If this URL doesn't work, let me know and I'll recheck it. Sue www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/histcountymaps/statemap.htm

    1. Re: [GADADE] Shadrack L. Hale 1846 Dade Co
    2. To answer your first question regarding a birth record for Shadrack L. Hale... Georgia did not require birth or death records until 1919 and many did not comply to have either recorded until much later. The answer to your question... there will not be a birth record on file within the county or state. Your best bet will be either to find it in an old family Bible or a death certificate if one was filed at his death. We have in our Library (Dade Co Library) a very good book on the Hales/Hails which was done a few years ago. I say very good as it is well documented... the only problem being there is no index. The man who did this book is currently working on another Hale book. Later today I'll check to see if he has anything in it regarding your family. 1. Re: [GADADE] Re: Baptist Church in Wildwood/ Lookout creek
    2. Hi Michelle, Lookout Creek forms near Valley Head (DeKalb Co) AL then flows north along the foot of Lookout Mountain from the southern end of Dade County to the northern end. It continues to flow along the foot of the mountain crossing into Tennessee to empty into the Tennessee River.
