Earleene, If there is an LDS Library near you they can order the roll of microfilm on which this application appears for $3.25. You can then take your time in reading the application and/or making a copy of it. This is usually faster and less expensive. The LDS Library near Chattanooga keeps the rolls of Miller application microfilm and now have hundreds of them. It's a wonderful source for you and others. in the photo at the Avans Post Office, he appears to be quite tall, I still have not got that copied yet, if he was full-blood, then his siblings should also be full-blood? I have always heard that the "family" was in the Trail of Tears. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Vance" <paulvance@msn.com> To: <GADADE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2004 10:45 PM Subject: Re: [GADADE] Avans > Delilah: > Did you ever see Jim Avans? > Did he look Indian? > To be a full blood both his parents had to also be full bloods. Delilah: Did you ever see Jim Avans? Did he look Indian? To be a full blood both his parents had to also be full bloods. Since Jim's father was born about 1827 in Tennessee it would have been before all the Cherokee round up in 1832. It would have been unlikely that a full blood would have been in the area. It would be a great story if he were living then. Let me hear what you think of this. No Delilah the James Avans I was referring to was a brother of Thomas Jefferson Avans. He was either a full brother or a half brother and from the census records he would be a full brother. This is the same Jim Avans. Have been in touch with his son, Eugene, who still lives in Knoxville. He said his father was up in age when he was born, but after splitting with his (Eugene's) mother, went on to hook up with another woman. Don't know if there were any more children after Eugene.
