    3. There is still a Durham Reunion held in June each year. I think it is the 3rd weekend but will find out for sure tomorrow if anyone is interested. Almost all of the older people are gone now, however, the next generation has continued with it. There is a bookout that was put out by a couple of residents a few years ago. We had a copy at the Dade Library... only it has disappeared. I may have found another copy (there is no copyright on it) if anyone is interested in that also. Be glad to make you a copy for copy and postage expense only. I have some pictures that I've copied along the way and will zerox those to add to the booklet. We've walked that old railroad bed many times and if one knows where to look it can still be seen today. Duke, when you walked from the main highway up Nick-a-jack Road then walked the rr bed to Lula Lake, you all sure walked a quite a-ways. You are so very right, it was a beautiful walk and still would be if it were opened up again. The lake is under protective trust right now. South Nick-a-jack connects Chattanooga Valley Rd (Highway 193) which is in the valley to Lula Lake Rd (Highway 157) on top of the mountain. Chattanooga Valley is on the east side of Lookout Mountain (Walker Co). The entire railroad was in Walker Co. After tomorrow afternoon I may have stories for you all about the Durham Mines. 3. Durham Road runs east/west... from Highway 157 (east side of the mountain) to Scenic Highway (west side of the mountain). Over half of Durham Road is in Walker County. The tree that was pointed out to me as being the hanging tree was in Walker Co but there could have very well been two. I know who Mr Harmon is and have talked with him. He is a very interesting man to talk with. The commissary and most of the mining buildings were in Walker Co, near the Dade Co line. Except for slag piles there isn't anything there now. As heavily wooded as it is, it is hard to believe it was once a busy mining town with houses everywhere. There was a railroad that carried the coal from these mines, northward around Lula Lake. It then made a "U" turn at the east brow running south, then southeast off the mountain. From there it finally ended up in Chickamauga at the coke ovens. When we were growing up in Chattanooga Valley we would hike to the top of the mountain, walk the old railroad to Lula Lake just to spend the afternoon swimming. It was a lot of fun and I wish children now could do things like that. This was really OT. 1. [GADADE] DAY family
    2. Does anyone have any information on the DAY family that lived in Dade County. My brother tells me that our dad took his mother to visit her Day relatives around 1950-1970. They lived in a two story house that was once a grocery store on Sand Mountain up from Trenton. Cecilia

    2. I think the one they were referring to was in Dade Cty - is there more than one, I understood it was on Durham Rd at the block house - which belongs to another of my Evans family (or used to) - there is a man who lives on Durham Rd (Corez Harmon) I talked a long time to him, he used to work for my grandfathers brother, "Lack", he showed me all around and said if I came back he would take me down into the woods, he knew a lot about that area - we picked blackberries off the vine, he showed me whre the old home place used to be and some of the entrances to the mines - delilah evans At 09:12 3/8/01 -0500, you wrote: >Delilah, You're right, the tree is still there on Durham Rd (Walker Co) or >it was a year or so ago.
