That was John T Davis buried in the Hawkins Cemetary in Dade Cty - I thought the "T" might stand for Thomas. delilah At 19:46 3/14/01 EST, you wrote: > Subj: Re: [GADADE] cemetary list for Dade Cty > Date: 03/14/2001 5:36:38 PM Central Standard Time > From: [email protected] > Reply-to: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > > There is a John T - buried in Hawkins Cemetary- Jan 12, 1860-Dec 30, 1922 > (don't know what the "T" stands for) and a Henry F. Did someone say that they have the 1880 Dade County Census? I am interested in any Reeves/Reaves, or Pool/Poole's that may be listed.. No hurry, just whenever is convenient. Many thanks in advance for your time. It is very much appreciated.. Kim Reeves Wilson Email: [email protected]
Thank you anyway for looking. Maybe I should have asked if you had a Thomas Davis. He would be Sterling Davis's son. Also is there a Henry Anderson Irene
HI, Here's what it shows in the 1880 census: Reeves, Margaret 23 yrs.old. Alabama. listed as head of household. Poole, Artermis 38(f)(?) Alabama. I don't know what the "f" stands for, and it's not on any one else. Listedas head of household. Reeves, Dock 34, Wife Charlotte, from GA. That was all I could find on the 1880 census (head of households) Hope it helps. There is no marked grave for Sterling Davis or Henry Davis. However, Dade Co has a large number of unmarked graves. Do you know when they died? Delilah, There are a number of mistakes in that 1900 census of Walker Co you have that you said you copied from the Walker Co Library. It was a rough draft copy to begin with... however, better than nothing. It was online at the Walker Co genweb page. But it may have been pulled as I have not been able to access it for some time. I have Dade County cemetery recordings that Steve, Stevie and I did plus the Dade Co 1840, 50, 60, 70, 80 some of 1900 and 1910 here at home that I would be glad to look up for anyone also. I have Walker Co 1850, 70 and 1880 too. The Walker 1880 census can be purchased from Delta Genealogical Society, 504 McFarland Ave., Rossville, GA 30741. It is $24.00 (includes P&H). Would you check for Sterling Davis and Henry Davis please? Irene
Neither of these names are in the Dade Cty listings I have, although there are a lot of Davis'. delilah evans At 15:53 3/14/01 EST, you wrote: >Would you check for Sterling Davis and Henry Davis please? I went to LaFayette back in 1998 (I think) and found Durham Rd and believe that I did copy this I have from the library, it is only the parts that have EVANS on it - that is when I met Mr Harmon and he told me all about the Durham Mine. Is this census in written form or microfilm? delilah evans At 16:02 3/14/01 -0500, you wrote: >Delilah, > >There are a number of mistakes in that 1900 census of Walker Co you have >that you said you copied from the Walker Co Library. Delilah.. If you don't mind my asking, where did you get your copy of the Dade and Walker County Census? I have had family in both of those counties at one time or another, and would be interested in buying a copy for myself. Thanks, Kim Wilson
I have located my copy of the cemetary listings for Dade Cty - if you got a name, and want me to check, let me know - also think I got the 1900 census for Walker Cty (must of copied that from the library in LaFayette) also some of the Evans that are buried in Walker Cty - sorry but I am in the process of moving from Alabama to Georgia and I am finding things as I get things unpacked - I thought all this info was still in my house in Alabama. delilah evans
Linda, you did great with your post - here is a Murphy name I found on the 1910 Walker Cty (Durham Rd) census: MURPHY, Wesley M - head - M/age 20? born tennessee (parents born TN) Coal Miner Noami? - wife (this name is hard to read and may be wrong) age 20? born South Carolina (parents born SC) Mark - son - age 11 or one (was in school at the time) Ruth - daughter - age appears to be under age 1 (was not in school at time) both children born in Georgia - parents born as above delilah evans

With all this talk of the Durham mines, I'm wondering what folks know about the mines up in Cole City. That's where my husband's ancestors lived and worked. Any info or rememberances are appreciated. Jeanette Kennedy in Calif.
