We will be dedicating a marker and an Iron Cross at his grave on May 20. He is my husband's great-grandpa Columbus Madison Newberry who was born in Crawford on April 29, 1840. He lived in both Crawford and Bibb Counties during his lifetime. He married Mary Elizabeth Marshall. Lisa, briefly...Jane Renfro was my husband's G-G Grandma. She married James Richard Joyner. Her parents were Enoch and Mary Mannard Renfroe. Jane and her husband are buried in the Society Hill Church Cemetery on Marshall Mill Road in Crawford County, but you might already know that. Jane's dad, Enoch also has a marker there, but is not buried there. He was a veteran of the War of 1812. Linda Ward Meadows who is also a descendant knows more about the Renfro line than I. In fact she is my source of info. I am sure that she will respond to your search, also. And on behalf of my husband, "Hey, Cuz!" Later, Jackie Marshall Marshall
I have a few tidbits of Renfroe info. to share, if you will contact me directly. Lesia, I cannot get thru at the address you have posted. Donna Wall ----- Original Message ----- From: "Millie C. Dear Millie--Thank you so very much for the reply. Maybe, just maybe, something will turn up as we keep trying as it did recently for Samuel Branch Burnett. We were really stuck with his father--just couldn't find what happened to the family between Samuel's birth in Dinwiddie County and his presence in Crawford Co. We are really delighted. I had kept some correspondence of a year ago on the Jordan family, which has given us two more generations of Jordans because it includes Branch Jordan. Samuel Branch Burnett's mother, Elizabeth Jordan was the daughter of Samuel Jordan and Annis____. (We know that because Branch Jordan, mentioned in the autobiography as Samuel B. Burnett's uncle, was a son of Samuel Jordan and even though so far Elizabeth has not turned up in records, she had to have the same father as her brother, of course. Samuel Jordan was the son of Edward Jordan, born about 1727 in Prince George County, VA. He married an Elizabeth_____. It is interesting to note that one of Samuel Branch Burnett's daughters carried Annis as a middle name. We think it is likely that Annis was a Branch. We are going to the university library this afternoon and will look into the Jordans further. I wish I had more time to spend on it, but I am writing a history of my grandparents and their ancestors, emigrants from England, and don't really have much time, but I'm still trying to help Harvey on his. He researches also, so he can do the bulk of it. I am just so interested it is hard for me to leave it alone. He doesn't use the computer, so I have to be involved. Concerning the Mt. Paran church--a few years ago we found some records from it at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. If you have not seen them, you could order the films on loan from the LDS Family History Center and go there to view them. I could not find it listed this morning on the Family Search Online Library Catalog, but at the Family History Center they could check it for you on fiche. It should be there, I know we saw it and made a few notes about the beginnings of the church. I thought I had seen Apselia's name there, but don't see it now unless I have misplaced a page of notes. I shall look. We do not know, however, how (or even if) you are related, but assume so, since you have worked on Apselia. Would you mind enlightening us of your connection. In case you don't know, Harvey is related through: Charity Ann Frances Burnett (Samuel's daughter) who married Samuel Hunter Causey. Their daughter Patience Elizabeth Causey married William Kinchen Eubanks who is Harvey's great grandfather. Apselia's record on one of the Crawford Co. census (can't remember off hand which) noted that she was born in South Carolina. We found that the 1820 Census of York County, South Carolina shows a Benjamin Morris and a Cilla Morris. We think the "Cilla" may refer to Apselia. We have not found anything further, but need to work at it more. We appreciate your suggestions. Thank you very much. We sent an e-mail to Charlotte Thrasher yesterday afternoon to inform her of the Jordan "finds". Hope she is doing ok. We are very sorry to hear that she is having problems. She was not really well when a few years back she heard of us and immediately went to the cemetery and took some wonderful photographs and then told us that they were a gift. We really appreciate and love her, though we have never met face-to-face. I apologize for the length of this message, knowing how busy you are. We do appreciate all your work. Lila, I had contact with Mrs. Thrasher, who.worked on that line for years. She must be a close relative of yours. She suddenly lost her hearing, and I haven't seen her since. We never could put our finger on Apselia. I don't think that she was a sister of John, but perhaps a daughter of Argyle, who gave bond for John, when he married Catherine Harvey. This Blackstone family has been the hardest line I have. Winifred Payne, John's mother, left a Will in Crawford and only mentioned John as her heir. As for Mt. Paran, the land was donated by John Glover and a man named Tharpe. It was given with the stipulation that it always be a church. I think it was suppose to be a Baptist Church, or the land was to go back to the family. If it had been contested, when they gave it to this denomination, we would have all owned a bucket full of dirt, after this long time. They keep the cemetery nice, and that is all that matters to the heirs. I really don't know how to go about looking for Apselia. She is so early to have good records. Columbia County may hold the clues, since they all seemed be there in the early years. I have search Warren, to no avail. I wish I could offer something concrete, but alas, she has proved to be a dead end street. Millie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lila C. Millie--It was suggested that I ask you about Mr. Paron Primitive Baptist Church. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. I'm especially interested in the Morris, Burnett, Jordan and Branch families. We were given Blackstone as Apselia (various spellings) surname, but Bob Stokes once told us he was sure it wasn't, but I think he could have been mistaken. If there are ever any clues that would help us in finding her surname for sure, we'd be very interested. Thank you for all you do. Lila ----- Original Message ----- From: Millie C. I thought that HERITAGE PAPERS went out of business when Mrs. Warren stopped publishing Puzzlers the end of 1998. > Not so!! I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warren's daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Some bound volumes of Family Puzzlers are still available. > For Heritage Papers, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/heritagepapers > For Family Puzzlers, The Next Generation, go to > http://www.galaxymall.com/books/familypuzzlers > I just thought you'd like to know, I did!! > Rick Mayes > Leitchfield, KY > mayes43@yahoo.com > . > > > This is an automatically-generated notice. > > <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Crawford?admin> > > >
