I am researching the WALTON (or WALTOM) family that went from North Carolina to Georgia about 1800. This Walton family consisted of 3 (or more) brothers that married Nichols sisters (maybe all three were sisters). This is the information I have: Jesse Waltom b 1780-1785 in Stump Sound, Onslow Co., NC died 30 Sep 1851 in Raymond, Coweta CO., GA. He married Elizabeth Nichols in GA 27 Dec 1808. She was b 1781 in NC and d 21 Jan 1875 in Coweta Co., GA. Ephaly Everett Waltom b 1784 in Goldsboro, NC d aft 1850 in Crawford Co., GA. He married Gatsy Nichols who was born 1782 in NC. Daniel Waltom b 1791 Stump Sound, Onslow Co., NC d 1842 in Gough, Burke Co., NC. He married Nancy Nichols who was b 1793 in Burke Co., NC and d 9 May 1877 in Gough, Burke Co., GA. All three of the Nichols ladies have been said to be the daughters of Thomas Nichols (no dates) who was born in NC and died in Burke Co., GA. I have no documentation of this Walton/Nichols relationship, and am searching for family stories or traditions, wills, Bible records, census, deed records, publications, etc to confirm this relationship. My ultimate goal is to determine if my oldest known Nichols ancestor might be a brother or cousin of these Nichols sisters. My oldest known Nichols ancestor was James Nichols who first shows up in the 1830 census of Crawford Co., GA. He is not in the 1820 GA census, but may have been missed because he had several children born in GA before 1820. According to census information he was born 1760-1770. His wife was Lydia (Vincent?) born 1770-1780. The Jesse Waltom family and the Ephaly Everett Waltom family moved to Crawford Co, GA and had a close relationship with the James Nichols family. Naming patterns of descendants of these three families are very similar. I have extensive information of the descendants of James Nichols which I can share. Hi, I have had a lot of questions and responses about the Jackson County, GA. Cemeteries. One of the main questions is how will this one be different. Here are my plans: 1. Mine will be an updated one (a lot of people have died in the last 20 years). 2. Mine will have pictures of the churches (if no church is there it will a picture of what the cemetery looks like. 3. I will include the church histories, along with founding members. 4. There are some cemeteries that are not in the old book, I am still looking for others. 5. I maybe include pictures of old or unusual stones. 6. I will include all unmarked graves. Any that are unmarked that I can find out who is buried there will be included. 7. Mine will include directions to the cemeteries and maybe maps. The maps in the old book are very hard to follow (I have heard this from others). I do not own this book and have only seen it once several years ago. I am still not sure how I am going to publish it yet. I may have to do it in sections if it gets too big. Was wondering f anyone can give the correct address for the county clerks office in Coweta Co. I need a marriage license from 1850. The address I have is: Probate Court Coweta County PO Box 945 Newnan, GA 30264-0945 They sent my letter back saying the forwarding order had expired....Can anyone help?
