The only information that I have has been passed from generation to generation. This is what I have been told by my father and so on; My father was Herbert Daniel Whitaker, his father was William Ambrose Whitaker, his father was Joshua Parker Whitaker (Grandpa Josh), his father (I think) was also Joshua P.(Parker) Whitaker. Joshua P. Whitaker was killed by his wife in 1876 when Grandpa Josh was 4 years of age. Grandpa Josh was born in 1872 and died in 1939. When Joshua P. Whitaker's wife killed him, she took Grandpa Josh and his brother "Billy" and hid in the woods. Well, the authorities found her and the boys and the boys was put in different homes in the community. She was put in an insane asylum (don't know where). Also, I do not have a name for her, have been told that she was a full-blooded Creek Indian. I do know that Grandpa Josh was raised by Mr. Billy Reeves from McDuffie County and is shown in the 1880 census for McDuffie County living in W. H. Reeves household as "adopted son". I am at a brick wall concerning these people, I did receive an email from Bev Whitaker several months ago that she had in her files somewhere: "Joshua P. Whitaker murdered by his wife 1st and 21st June, 1876" and this is listed in the Mt. Moriah minutes. I have even tried to find the Mt. Moriah that she could be speaking about (I only know of one in the area where it could be possible a match) with no luck. Any information that you possibly might find or could direct me into looking for information further will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for responding, Vivian Whitaker McBride
