    3. I have just received the following infected message from the List. Notice mention of attachment. It was from "Charles Gibbons" with an attachment called "fun.pif", which contained the BadTrans virus. Norton AntiVirus 2000 caught it. I put it in Quarantine and deleted it. I hope that is the end of it. I know it isn't supposed to be possible to send a virus through a List, so what is going on here? 3. As list admin, I can assure that NO ATTACHMENTS go through rootsweb. They are stripped and bounced to the admins. What you received was a reply to a post you made to the list. It came directly from the computer of the person infected with the virus. The BadTrans goes through and answers all the unanswered emails on the infected computer. It is a reply to a message sent to roots web list, but did not pass through rootsweb. If it had gone through the list itself, everyone would have received the same message and attachment. In the meantime I will unsubscribe the person with the infected computer if you will send me the email address. People are subed with addresses, but not names. Once they write and let me know that they are virus free, I will resub them. 3. Thanks for the explanation, Carol. What I should have said is that it appeared to be from the list. I've heard repeatedly that it just can't happen that way, but I couldn't figure out what WAS going on. <g> Unfortunately, I deleted the "Charles Gibbons" message before running a virus scan, so I can't give you his address. If this goes to the List, hopefully he will contact you. 2. Charles Gibbins
    3. Hi Anne, I really don't know what happened or how it happened. I think I received an infected message from one of my correspondence and my mail started doing many funny things, one of which was showing "Charles Gibbins" as the sender of ALL my incoming messages. Not knowing what else to do, I just deleted my Prodigy program entirely and then reinstalled it which seemed to fix the problem. I had not sent any recent messages to GACOLUMB-L, but suppose the virus picked up the address from my address book. My system seems to be running OK now and hope I haven't caused too much trouble. It was entirely unintentional.
