Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Columbia/10566 Surname: STURGIS, PASCHALL, HOLLIDAY, LEVERETT, O'NEAL ------------------------- COLUMBIA COUNTY My maiden name was Sturgis. All of that line apparently came through Wilkes, Lincoln, Columbia, McDuffie, Warren and finally Glascock Co., Ga. I see that you mention two of my lines on which I am stumped. My O'Neal line: All I know is that Nancy O'Neal married Allen Holliday in Lincoln Co., GA on Sept. 17, 1812. I am looking for her father and mother to be able to go further back. My Leverett line: All I know is that Anne Leverett was born on Jan. 14, 1789, married Thomas Paschall on Aug. 6, 1806, in Lincoln Co., GA and died on May 21, 1848, in Lincoln Co., GA. I am looking for her father and mother to be able to go further back. I would appreciate any help you can give me on these two surnames.
Listmembers: At least part of the Moon family moved to Chambers County Alalbama, ca 1840 where they were involved in the mercantile business near the Community of Freedonia, Alabama. They were somehow associated with part of my Tankersley family that moved there also. There still exists in Columbia County a Moontown Road near Winfield which presumably went to the Moon home. The progenitor of the Tankersley branch that moved to Chambers was William Brooks Tankersley, Jr.(b.ca.1815,d.ca. 1880) who married Mary Clay. I think the Moon and Clay families were also associated. I do not know much about these people but had run into this association in trying to research William B.Tankersley, Jr. BTW, he returned to Columbia County by 1860,cause unknown but suspected to be because his wife died, and thence he went to Elbert County GA, remarried, and lies in a so far unknown grave. Death date also unknown. If anybody knows anything about him, please let me know. Joseph Jordan (Joe) Tankersley Appling, Columbia County Georgia Residing at the Old Kiokee Tannery

Replied to you yesterday on the Smith/Mercer's. I noticed you are also researching the Veazey line. There are Veazey's in my Moore line. They live in Taliaferro Co. (Sharon),GA which was originally part of Wilkes Co. My Moore's are there too. The library at Crawfordville has worlds of info on the local families. Will be glad to share what I have. The Smiths and Mercers that my husband descended from are in Butts Co. There are worlds of Weavers there also. We live in Spalding Co., next door to Butts. Hope to hear from you. Folds in Jasper Co. GA in 1838. They lived in Butts Co. and Peterson died in 1847. Zelphorah married Andrew P. Johnson from Henry Co. in 1848. Believe Peterson's father was Peterson, Sr. There's also a Sarah Smith b. 1809 in Laurens SC. I believe she is Peterson, Jr's. sister. Sarah married Joseph G. Mercer in Jasper Co. GA. I have the history on all these lines on down but can't find who Sarah's and Peterson's parents were for sure. They married in Laurens SC in 1808. The Folds line comes from Columbia Co. Zelphorah's father was John B. Folds that married Mary Wilkins (1), Elizabeth Kendrick (2) and Nancy Davis (3). Hope you can help.

I went to the site and thought that it was wonderful and lots of great information. There is just one thing that I noticed that was not accurate and that was the location on the county on the Georgia map. Columbia county is on the eastern side of the state. Great county with a lot of history. Hope that this helps if anyone might have been planning a trip to Columbia County, Georgia. Also noted the misplacement by about 200 mile of Columbia County Ga, on the map, which is over by Augusta, not north of Atlanta. Good luck and it looks good. cdp Jan Bohler wrote: > I went to the site and thought that it was wonderful and lots of great > information. Or did just Elizabeth go to Warren to live with relatives before marrying George Washington JOHNSON? Any suggestions are welcomed. Linda Johnson, 828 Lane Rd., Texas City, TX 77591
