    1. [COLUMBIA CO.] Kings
    2. Is anyone researching Kings in Columbia Co.? I am trying to find the parents and family of Mary Polly King who married Simon Ward in Richmond Co. in 1830. The King family came over either from Germany or Holland. We think they were Dutch but sail from Germany. They landed in Savannah, GA. Does anyone have a site that might give the Ships landing say early 1800s or late 1700s? Simon Ward and family moved to around Grovetown in Columbia Co., by the 1860s and are recorded in the census. There are some Kings in that area also that we know were Dutch. Also where do you go to find naturalization papers? I feel lost with so few facts to go on. Would appreciate any help on these families. Beulah McCain

    2. Janet Finley Davis
    3. Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ga/Columbia/10588 Surname: Stanford, Barber, Young ------------------------- I believe Deacon David Stanford of Columbia Co. had a son named William David Stanford. I have an indenture of land from George W. Barber to William D. Stanford. However, I do know that William D. Stanford was married to a Nancy Winburn. And George W. Barber had a wife named Francis Winburn. I don't know anything about Sarah Fossett. I'm very interested in Deacon David's family because we have a marriage between a George W. Barber and an Elizabeth Stanford which took place in 1818 (possibly a different George W. Barber) and I have one list of David's children which includes an Elizabeth born in 1800. I'd be interested to hear from anyone with any info on these people. I have a little more myself I'd be happy to exchange.

    1. [COLUMBIA CO.] Folds, Eads, Wilkins, Offutt
    2. I'm have just come across a lot of messages about the Folds, Eads, Wilkins and associated family on the Columbia Co. Ga. site. This is really Great!! I keep running into these families as I try to unscramble my tangled genealogy roots. My live go as follows: First, Samuel Wilkins born in 1781 in what I believe was Richmond County, Georgia. This date is from Samuel's Headstone in Fayette County. The location is from such things a census records, and early land records of Samuel. In 1788 a Jemima Wilkins marries a Ezekial Offutt. This seems to be Samuel's mother and step father. In 1798 Samuel though a young man was the poster and signer for the co-security of the marriage bond of a Amos Folds marriage to Maryann (Marian) Wilkins in Richmond County, Ga.. These two reference and so other indications suggest that Samuel's father died early in life and left a young family. In 1803 Samuel purchases land on contract from a Thomas Sullivand both of Columbia County. Then Samuel is listed as a defaulter of taxes in Columbia Co.. This same year Samuel applies for a draw in the Land Lottery. In 1805 he becomes a successful prize winner and in 1806 he is given a grant for that land. This land helps us track Samuel and tell him apart from other Samuel Wilkins in the area. In 1808 Samuel marries a Elizabeth (Betsey) Upton. the Co-securitier of the marriage bond was a John Wilkins. This new family lives in Columbia County until 1826-1827. At which time they moved to Fayette County, Georgia. I believe that Amos Folds ties into George Folds, Sr.. By tracing the Upton line I have found that they were associated with but not always active in Quaker Meetings. But seemed to migrate with the Quakers as they opened new areas. In this tracing I have followed back to Cumberland County, N.C.. To my surprise I find a George Folds in the Land recorded there. Could this be the George Folds. Sr. form Georgia? Any help in extending these lines would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share any and all information that I may have.

I have read your book at the Atlanta archives and have use it to help me in my research. You had a William Stanford as a son of David Sr. Should have been David Stanford Jr who married a Sarah Fossett (Fausett). It is always possible that David Juniors middle or first name was William. I have found no proof of that yet. I think it is more likly that the lady whose diary you based some of your info on was mistaken when she wrote William. I wish more people would have left Diaries for us to read. Any way I have a lot of info on David Jr. If you would like more of this info just contact me at johnnystevens@sprintmail.com I will be happy to share what i have. Look foward to hearing from Ya Johnny from Atlanta

    3. Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Columbia/10580 Surname: Day, Cochran, Weatherford ------------------------- My gr-gr grandfather, John Washington Day, came to Texas in 1835. He returned to GA ca 1837, where he had left his wife, Susan (last name unknown) and their two children, John Washington Day b. 1835 and Elizabeth Jane Day, b. 1836. The family returned to Texas in 1837. While in Texas, the family used the surname of "Cochran" rather than "Day". In 1841, their third child, my gr-grandfather, William Weatherford Day was born. His father had been killed a few months prior to his birth. In Columbia County, in 1837, a John Day witnessed the will of a John Cochran. None of the Cochran heirs appear to be Susan Day. However, I believe my Day family must be connected to the Day and Cochran families of Columbia County. I've also wondered if Susan could have been a Weatherford because of my gr-grandfather's name. Will appreciate any help.

I do know that Ann Tudor Hancock and Charles Green Gilpin had children, one set of twins that died when I do not know, and I believe another girl that died when I do not know. Did I mention they are buried at Grove Baptist Church, Ann and Charles Gilpin. I have pictures of their graves. 3. No, Patricia I do not. But then I only have the names of 2 Gilpins right now. Ignatius and Charles Green Gilpin b. 1833. Perhap this might help out of Columbia Co. records, William Newman & Sarah Gilpin married 8/24/1813, granddaughter of David Vinson. Ignatius Gilpin & Nancy Denham married 7/14/1800, daughter of Charles Denham. and Elizabeth Gilpin married James Dunham 10/29/1806. Let me know if it helps or not. By Sept 1825 he was in Madison Co AL where his will was written. > Have found no information about his wife, but children listed in the will and estate papers were: > Elizabeth who m. Names associated with the Franklins (witnesses, etc.) were Greenhaw, Rochell, Lewis, Bouldin. From the list of buyers at the estate sale in AL, some surnames were also found in Columbia Co GA earlier, ie. E. Willingham bought 3 barrels of steelyards???(looks like). The only son listed in the estate records, John, died before his father Abraham, but he had children, one of whom, Mary, was already married in 1825 to Edward Lewis; others were Benjamin, Ann, Elizabeth, Caroline, Julia, and Alexander. Alexander died young, so Benjamin was the 'last' of this line of Franklins. > > Would like to find researching descendants of any of these people to learn hopefully where Abraham lived before Columbia Co GA and who his wife was.
