My greatgrandmother Ashurst was born Laura Lee Bost. Do you have any connections to these folks? I have only recently started working on my Ashurst roots, because I live in Virginia, closer to my mother's Maryland/Virginia roots. I believe my Ashurst ancestor married Jeanne Flournoy and that was in the mid-1700's. Any hints you can give would be greatly appreciated.
If all else fails, try Interlibrary Loan. That at least might tell you who "has the book, but won't lend it" and perhaps they will do a lookup for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ann Summers <texann@abilene.com> To: <GACOLUMB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2001 12:32 AM Subject: [COLUMBIA CO.] LWT of John Garnet, 10 Sept 1785 > Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Columbia/10601 Surname: Stone, Avera, Buckner ------------------------- 1803 Columbia County Ga, Nancy H. Avera entered into marriage bond with William Stone (of Maryland). She was probably that daughter Nancy mentioned in the 1799 will of Isaac Avera in Lincoln County Ga (formerly Wilkes). They removed to Putnam County where William died in 1829. Nancy was born 1784 or 1779; and died 1886 Fayetteville, Ga. It is probably their son John H. Stone who succeeded Eli Buckner as militia Captain of their District in Putnam Co for the 1830 Census. Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ga/Columbia/10592 Surname: Barber, Stanford ------------------------- I checked Genforum for Stephen Stanford and the only one I found which mentioned a son William in GA was born in 1805, 10 years before William D. got married, was not in Columbia County and the son was William Jackson Stanford, not William D. I would love to have more information on this Stephen Stanford whose will was proved in 1800. Can you point me to some references? Or do you have a copy of that will you could post? You say William was not left anything in David's will. I don't think I have a copy of David's will either but can probably find it if it's been microfilmed or else the next time I get to Columbia County. Did David Sr.'s will mention a son David? Because it looks like William D. may have been called by both names. Also, it's possible he'd already gotten his share of the estate before his father's death. I still like David as the father of William D. because of Elizabeth. I've thought for some time that Elizabeth and William were brother and sister, and Mary Poitevent's research lists a David and an Elizabeth. In another part of her research it also lists a William in place of David. I'm still searching, nothing proven yet.
Posted on: Columbia Co. Ga Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ga/Columbia/10591 Surname: Stanford ------------------------- Hello I researched David Stanford Sr about a year or two ago. During my research I came across many other Stanford records. Please Bear with me. I used to know a lot of this info but have moved on to other family names. Here is what I have found going over some of my records. 1. Some one on Ancestry.com thinks William D Stanford was a son of Stephen Stanford. 2. Stephen Stanford's Will registered July 11th 1800 reads in part "unto my son William Stanford all my land at my wife decease or when she should marry". Could be William D Stanford. 3. William D Stanford's will registered March 18th, 1844. 4. Payout record of Estate of David Stanford which list money left from Estate sale. Its been a while since I looked at this but from Memory all of David's children got something. I think one of David's daughters who married a John F Young was deceased at that time but John still got his wife's share. I would think it was because of his children. My point is even with William D Stanford being dead at the time when David Stanford's Estate payout was made, his wife would have got a share if he was indeed a son of David Stanford. Since she did not that would lead us to believe he was not a son of Deacon David. My bet would be Stephen Stanford as the father of William D Stanford. Johnny

Here's the quote from the Stanford forum: Mary Wells Poitevent of Neptune Beach, Florida donated her research to the Genealogical Society of Utah and it was filmed in 1989. Her research includes Stanford and other families. Her work is well documented and titled, Peterson, Wells, Poitevent family genealogical records, ca. 1715 - 1977, and other genealogical data, FHC Film 1320853 Item 7. Mary Wells Poitevent is a descendant of deacon David Stanford. David Stanford had a son named Samuel Stanford, born 1815 in Columbia County, married Elender Pheriby Sanderlin on April 26, 1838 and served as a medical doctor in the Confederate Army. He died October 1864 in Forsyth, Georgia. Heres a 1944 affidavit in Ms. Poitevents research.
